Meh, I think it is entirely situational and most people freak out way to much over "offensive jokes."

As long as you are just joking then yes. I don't get people who are offended by stupid jokes just because they are about something kinda touchy.

IMO there is no topic that cannot be addressed with humor. Really, you can joke about anything you want as far as I'm concerned. So what if some people get offended? I'm offended by dog poo and people listening to schlager. Doesn't mean we should ban dogs and schlager. Grow a thicker skin people.

"Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die."

That's Mel Brooks. In my opinion, best interpretation of comedy.

The best comedy seems mean-spirited and cruel. It's at the expense of others. It shocks you, it hits you right down deep in the primal level.

You can craft a joke about almost anything, and as long as it's funny everyone who's offended can blow it out their ass.

Not to mention, if we're forced to allow the Aryan Guard to rally in the streets of Calgary, cracking down on racist jokes would be petty and ridiculous. Of course you have the right to be offended. You even have the right to tell horrible jokes about me. No, you can't harass particular people, and frankly.. if all your jokes are racist, you're going to become boring VERY QUICKLY.

That's my only issue with racist/sexist jokes. They're not shocking anymore. It's almost mainstream if you've been on the internet (or in high school). People need to move on.

As a fan of Frankie Boyle and his Tramadol Nights I say yes. If it's just offensive in a hateful manner then no it's not.
