Are sandals appropriate all year round?

I know a guy who used to wear sandals with socks in the middle of October... and he lives in Sweden. He's freaking awesome.

I suppose it really depends where you live. If you live in a place that's warm and not particularly rocky, sandals should be fine.

I don't own legitimate sandals personally, though. The best I have is 99 cent flip flops, and I may as well just go barefoot if it's not a great time for shoes.

Besides climate, hobbies and your profession are other factors. Though I live in the desert and probably could get away with sandals all year round, I do enough work in the garage and general screwing around in the desert that my feet would be horribly mutilated if I did so. I imagine warehouse, steel, construction (etc) workers would have some qualms about wearing sandals to work.

Plus I find all the crap that accumulates on the soles of sandal-wearers rather unappealing. 'Bout the only time I wear sandals is when I plan on getting wet (rain notwithstanding.)

It depends. I live in Chicago so we get 100 degree in the summer and 30 below 0 in the winter. So I'd say in the summer or warmer months yes but in the winter and freezing months no.
