I would say that over-sexualized characters, regardless of gender are usually gratuitous. The only time they get insulting is when the advertising for it is something that's shoved in my face, as in I'm expected to like this just cos it's got some ridiculously proportioned digital girl in it or on the box. Reason why I just can't stand Bayonetta, Devil May Cry and most fighting games.

And Red Dead was almost the closest I think. Has anyone else ever noticed that? as breast size increases relative IQ drains for the female chars in videogames. It seems almost wrong . . . I've known at least a few women who's breasts were naturally large who were intelligent. Yet according to games you'd think any woman with more than a B cup has less in her head than she does in her hand . . .
The less clothes the girls on the box wears, the less likely I am to buy the game.

I would be prepared to lay a hefty bet that the majority of people who buy and play Tomb Raider don't buy it for the puzzles and the combat, and that's one of the harder titles to feature a woman in the central role. For games where the gender is purely aesthetic (fighting games), the only thing I believe that would sell is sex.

I think it sort of alienates people who think different types of women are attractive too. Almost like, if you don't want this oversexualized beast, you're not normal.
