Are there any concepts you're just burnt out on?

Just pick a concept from anything, books, movies games, pick the ones you've simply had enough of. I don't mean in a hostile way or anything like that, it's just that you're enjoyment of it has simply been whittled down to nothing over time.
For me, it's zombies. Seriously, other than the Resident Evil games, I'm just tired of them. Really the only thing left for me to enjoy is Left 4 Dead albeit only with friends (which really is the best way to play that game anyway) and Shaun of the Dead. I'm sure The Walking Dead is a great show and comic but I don't really want to partake in either of those.
These things said, I want to read World War Z, I hear there's some pretty cool stuff in there.
Anyway.
So what are you burnt out on. Once again, you don't have anything against it you simply don't find it enjoyable anymore.

Read it, it's very good. It's not your typical 'blargh, zombies' story.

OP: I'm not sure, I suppose the standard chick flick format. I like cheesy movies, just not the same cheesy movie with different actors.

- +1 for zombie apocalypses. So very played out. (Yes, the Walking Dead game is an exception. No need to lynch me.)

- The Land of the Free Vs Terrorists/Russians. Please stop slapping me in the face with your 9/11 revenge fantasies.

- Sword & Sorcery fantasy with elves, dwarves and orcs. Yes, Tolkien was pretty cool. Now can we please stop ripping him off? Also, can we please stop ripping of the guys who ripped off the guys who ripped off Tolkien? That would also be nice.

- Mad Max style post-apocalypse settings. It's been done to death, please stop it.

Add another one to zombies.

Zombies were great, zombies were the in thing ...... in the 80's and 90's.

I've had 32 years of people beating the old zombie horse with the same stick be it in games, films or TV. Stop it, just stop it with the damn zombies.

Slasher movies.

Group of teens do stupid shit and piss someone off or go camping. Someone with various tools kills off said teens one at a time. And it's here we run into the problem.

In horror/thriller movies we need to have a main character or two that we want to survive, that we root for. In those slasher movies we want them all to die, why? Because they are teens with shit acting.

Take Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the kid in the wheelchair. People don't want to watch the disabled get hacked up but that kids is so fucking irritating we're praying for him to try stopping a chainsaw with his face. The rest of the cast aren't much better, just differ in degrees of irritating.

In fact, all that can be said about ANY horror/thriller film with a group of teens. If people watching the film start rooting for the killer .... you're doing something wrong. My wife loves these films so I end up watching them with her, I hate them.

Kids in films not aimed at kids.

I'm going to use War of the Worlds remake with Tom Cruise for this one. I've never managed to watch it all the way through because those 2 kids are so FUCKING ANNOYING i'm forced to turn it off before I start jamming knitting needles in my ears to make the annoying noise that is their talking stop.

Kids in kids films are great, they save the day. It's aimed at kids, it makes them the heroes. And that is where child actors should stay.

Kids in adult films are annoying. They are a burden. They scream, whine, get in the way and do dumb shit that gets folk killed.

They put them in to give the audience something to care about "think of the children" if you will.

Well I am thinking of those children.

I'm thinking how much better these films would be if they weren't in them,

I have gotten tired of myste-Lol jk, I could never get tired of a good mystery story. It's just not gonna happen.

Seriously, I guess FPS in general. I got Halo 4, Borderlands 2, Dishonoured and I barely touched Halo or BL at ALL. I finished Dishonoured because it got hardcore carried (like a team led by a fed Vayne) by the story and multiple approaches to scenarios. I was only stabbing people and sneaking, I could have dropped by guns by the wayside at any point and it would make no difference.

I'm really into UMVC3 and BlazBlue at the moment, i'm trying to find a third character who is not Phoenix Wright for my secondary team and... It's just not happening, at all. At all. At all at FUCKING ALL! I know if I could understand Dante at all he would be my third... DANTE TOO HARD!

I think I just like games that make you learn. LoL and two fighting games is a shitload of learning, anyone could tell you that. Pushing hardcore all day is a good strategy for Vi? Well now that you mention it Wings... My Noel is still sort of ok, I like spamming the aerial D over people, you can get yo' free combo off it and it's probably ambiguous cross-up wise.

Man I know that feel, I just started playing UMVC too and all the characters I like are really hard to play like Dante, I can do one decent combo with him and that's about it. I also can't decide on a 3rd character.

OT: I'll go with zombies and any America fuck yeah style games.

I'm kinda done with the `wronged white family man takes revenge!!!` genre of films.
Let's face it, it's been done.
A lot.

It always comes across as `Well, now that annoying family of mine is dead, I can pursue my true passion; MURDER!`

I still like zombies as a concept, just not the movies they're spinning out of said concept. The problem is there's no one to turn to. George A. Romero, bless his soul, is a has-been director. The Resident Evil movies have been in autopilot since day one. Zombie comedies like Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland? Done and done. There was some promise in the first couple of Spanish [REC] films but that's spoiled for good ever since they switched to comedy with the third movie. Everywhere I look we've reached a zombie stalemate. I wish the genre would get a facelift... but maybe there's nowhere to go.

I would say I've grown tired of slasher movies as well, but those are in decline, thank goodness, crawling back to the B-list indie dump from whence they came. Now that the Saw and Hostel franchises are over, I'd venture we're safe from torture-porn for good, though every now and then "the producers of Saw" or "the makers of Saw" or some contrived rot like that bring up a totally forgettable stab back at the genre.

Anyway, back to video games... I'd like for RPGs to get over Tolkien and the Middle Ages. I don't mind with war-torn FPS because it hasn't been around as long as Middle Ages-themed RPGs, which were more or less born with RPGs. Why must we role-play as knights and magicians? Why can't we role-play in ancient mythological Greece, or Shintoist Japan, or Prohibition-era USA, or some distant future where our imagination is unbound of history?

MMORPG. I played "Anarchy Online", which was around bfore World of Warcraft. Eventually, WoW became so succesful that everyone wanted a Piece of that Pie and stole Stuff from it.
Eventually, i saw stuff stupidly copy-pasted into my game which i "had" to do because there was loot i'd need. Other Stuff i spend hours to collect was suddenly worthless.

Which is a gripe with most mmorpg's. You can't do much alone, and you'll have a hard time doing things with a random assortment of Friends, you will have to organize bossfights with less and less variables the higher your level goes.

At the beginning, you can skill a character and do stuff alone when no group can be found at the moment. But you'll get weaker and weaker compared to monsters of your level.
You can make a twink to clear out this and that low to midlevel instance by yourself. You can not do that near maxlevel. Actually, you can't do anything alone when you're at max level, you'll need a well organized Party for everything.

Eventually, i was playing "Oblivion" and was fascinated with the Stuff you can do there. Enemies will level with you but you'd have to try really hard to get them as strong as they get in later mmo levels. And even then they'll be easy to beat if you know how. You can do quite a lot of things when you don't have to balance stuff for thousands of potential griefers.

Stuff that would get me banned in the mmo, is part of normal Gameplay in Oblivion. In the Mmo, i'm restricted everywhere. Everything i can do is under constant scrutiny in order to prevent me from getting anything other Players couldn't and there are endless Discussions if this and that should be considered cheating and if it turns out that it is, the next patch will completely disable jumping for example because it's possible to jump over 30 million steps and take a shortcut that saves you twelve seconds to get some item that's worth as much as a Rat tail.

I'm tired of games that everyone has a problem need solving that they can't do themselves. Seriously get more games out there where my character has a problem and he quests out to get others to help him.

I'm not the babysitter of a damn world.

Zombies.

In everything.

To a lesser extent 3D. Nothing has been better because of 3D, and almost everything that has been released in 3D has been far worse because of it.

to be honest for me it's romance subplots in movies, particularly superhero movies, but also in general. not EVERYTHING needs a romance subplot, I like a good romance if ir's done well, but seriously about 95% of all movies have a romance subplot and a lot of them seem completely for their own sake, for example I think, although not badly done, the romance in Thor wasn't needed, they could've just been friends and the end result would've been exactly the same it was by far not the worst movie romance Natalie Portman has been a part of, but still it was not needed

I am actually pretty tired of games, where main character IS a main character simply because he/she is a "chosen one". I'd rather play a game/watch a movie/read a book, where main character has influence on the surronding world either because he/she worked really hard for it, or because of fate.

Is being chosen by fate any different from being 'Chosen'?

Actually, this is why I enjoy being a nameless, faceless generic soldier. Battlefront 1/2, Brink, etc. Any game that lets you just stick your character in a suit of body armor with a face concealing mask, but especially balaclavas.

I din't mean that Fate comes from the sky and says "this one". I meant that main character could be (story-wise) replaced by, well, any person. Example: Mass Effect. If Shepard didn't push Ashley away from the beacon, those would have been adventures of Ash, not Shep. Although, because she is quite xenophobic, she would have failed to unite the galaxy and everyone would have been harvested.
