I'm a bit bored at the moment, and want to find an RPG on the app store that's any good.
However, much to my dismay, it's full of Modern War/ Crime City/ Mobster Wars boredom resource management snoozefests, without any actual ROLE PLAYING capabilities.
So does anyone have any recommendations?

I've heard good things about Infinity Blade, which is a cool action/RPG game that I haven't gotten the chance to try out yet.
Also, there's GTA: Chinatown Wars, which is a fairly good port of the original, from what I can tell.

There's Zenonia, which is a top-down action-RPG with guns and swords and stuff, and you can level up and learn different techniques and they have some item crafting mechanics. It's pretty solid as long as you can tolerate touch D-pads.

Yes, recently I've been playing the game Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land. It borrows a lot of the rules from the tabletop game, but mixes things up with some strategy RPG action. On top of that the story is inspired by H.P Lovecraft's short story "Herbert West: Reanimator".

Not really, Infinity Blade might be worth checking out.

I also know there's a really good port for Skyrim on Mac if that's relevant.

On the mobile app store my favorite RPGs are

Space Miner (a hybrid of asteriods and an RPG game where upgrading your ship = leveling)
Battleheart (action RPG)
Galaxy on Fire 2 (space RPG)
War of Eustratch (robot RPG)
Dungeon Hunter (action RPG)

I've never really been that much into JRPGs but there are several on the app store that people seem to like, such as Zenonia, Across Age, Chronicles of Inotia

Ravensword gets good reviews

The Quest is a real old-school rpg game, its got:
-Character Creation (+1)
-Expansive Open World (+1)
-Diverse Expansions (+1)
-Complex skill system (+1)
-Old-school Questing with no help (+1 or -1 if you're lazy as)
-Hell lot of loot (+1)
-Fun card mini game in taverns (+1)

I really think you should try this one if you're into turn-based action rpgs.

WRPGs: Necromancer Rising, Rimelands: Hammer of Thor, Aralon: Sword and Shadow, and Ravensword: The Fallen King.

JRPGs: CHAOS RINGS, Eternal Legacy, Inotia 3: Children of Carnia, and the ZENONIA series.

I'm going to recommend a game that I can't recommend enough.

Squids by The Game Bakers.

It's sort of an SRPG but instead of moving around with a grid, you fling your characters around with the touch screen. I believe The Escapist itself described it as a mix of Angry Birds and Final Fantasy Tactics, and the game is solid.

The gameplay is fun, the characters are varied and interesting, the visuals are gorgeous, the soundtrack is fitting and well composed, there's a fair challenge that progresses through the game, the leveling system works out, the hat system is great (each hat just transfers stats to your Squid, so you can wear whichever one you want while still being stronger) and to top ALL of that off, the story is actually well written and interesting.

I hope I'm not overselling it because I will feel bad if you buy it and end up hating it, but seriously...get Squids. There's even gonna be some new levels added this month.

Also, if you DO end up getting it and liking it, Squids 2 is coming out sometime this summer.

Squids is also available on Mac computers and even Android phones if anyone else is reading this :p

Im going to have to look some of these up when I get home. But yeah infinity blade is the first that comes to mind. The actual rpg mechanics are light but it's a beautiful looking game and the combat gets pretty intense that I'd say the gameplay rivals console and pc games. If only there was more content it would be the perfect game.

Well, this is kind of cheating, but you can jailbreak it and refuse to get an emulator because that'd be wrong.
Otherwise, Infinity Blade is all I got.

I'm looking for iPad/iPhone games, I don't own a mac.

I own a PC, but I'm not looking for a computer war here.

dungeon hunter 1 and 2 are really good. It has a top down view. I heard it is similar to diablo, I guess it is kind of similar but I don't get a Diablo feel. I do, however, get an old school rpg feeling. It isn't all that hard though but it is really fun.
