I am in the process of researching parts for a pc I will build in the near future, and i was wondering, how long will these components last until i need to upgrade, and are they worth it?

Coolermaster Haf X Case
Coolermaster V8 Heat-pipe based heatsink
Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) XMS3 1600MHz - RAM
Corsair 750Tx PSU (I updated it =])
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1 TB Hard Drive, SATA, 7200 RPM, 32 MB Cache (One Main, One Backup)
Asus Rampage III Extreme
Intel i7 950 (4 x 3.06GHz) 8 MB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 - 1 GB - Palit or Gainway, which is better?

I know how much this is going to cost, I just want to know, are there any other better parts for around the same price, and are these parts worth it.

Edit - The PC will cost me around £1200

No. The i7 920 is the one to get. The 950 is overkill when you think about price vs performance. Besides, the 920 is sufficient almost no matter what you're going to be using your PC for. Furthermore, there's a time and a place for everything, and it's called overclocking.

Doesn't matter. All manufacturers get the same chipsets delivered. They just slap a sticker on top of the cooler, and maybe tweak the performance a little bit. Sometimes, of course, they put on a different cooling device and do some other stuff, but if the core clocks are identical I'd say; get the cheaper one, really.

Let's just say that with these components you'll probably max every PC-game in the next 5-10 years.

But then again you'll probably have to hoax up with at least 1500 ? or so am I right?

Heat sink isn't the best. I mean it's cool, sure, but it's absolutely ginormous and not even the top dog.

IMO you should pick up a Corsair 750TX. 600W is enough to power it, yeah, but you'll probably want to SLI another 460 in the future because a single one isn't going to max out games like Crysis, Cryostasis, Metro 2033. It'll be good enough, tho.

I have two 500GB Seagate 7200.12 HDDs in RAID 0. The read and write times are literally doubled so IMO, do that. Plus, 1TB is a ton of storage. I'm currently using maybe 300gb with like 14 games installed plus a bunch of movies and pics.

If you can get an i7 930 for a much better price, the performance difference is small and you can easily OC to the exact same specs.

Overall it's pretty good tho, it'll last a while.

You'll probably want to invest in a SSD for the boot drive, and use the TB drives for storage only. Seems like the limiting factor in that build would be hard drive read speed.

...You won't be able to play Crysis 2 on full settings, I'm afraid.

But that's because nobody can - Yeah that's an awesome-powerful PC, you'll be fine with that for years to come :)

Intel. INTEL. Go get a real possessor tbh. Noone uses Intel on custom built PC's. Otherwise you've overkilled it tbh. A comp of half that quality could run everything going at max graphics. If youve got the cash going free fair enough. But Id build a worse computer and steadily upgrade it every year. This keeps costs down but your PC upto date. There is no real reason to pay more than £150 for any single component unless your worried about the size of your epeen.

Also, I buy Gainward cards. But really you need a write up of the stats and prices to know for sure which is better.

I suggest you use that PC to design a time machine and then get a PC from the future for half the price and twice the spec.

Wrong; entirely wrong. Add-in Board Partners (that is, 3rd party video card manufacturers) can specify customized printed circuit boards (PCBs) with new circuitry, more memory, more MOSFETs for better energy usage, totally new board layouts for custom cooling solutions, etc. And even then, different manufacturer's BIOS on the cards can affect the performance between two reference spec cards.

Op: read reviews about the cards you want from manufacturers; look for factory overclocked if you want, or go reference spec. I've never heard of Gainway, but they may be a European-regional ABP. Palit, I have heard good things about, but they tend to be low-mid tier cards. I'd suggest looking at something like Zotac, Asus, or XFX for better cards. EVGA is GODLIKE as far as Nvidia cards are concerned, but you pay out your eyeballs for 'em.

Check websites like Bit-Tech [http:\\www.bit-tech.net], Hard-OCP [http://www.hardocp.com], and Bjorn3D [http://www.bjorn3d.com] for benchmarks and reviews of cards.

That's a darn good price for the card. The 465s are good mid-range cards, and the price is right. Mafia 2 is a nice bonus (if you don't mind that it's single-player only like Bioshock 1...).

It's a great card, much better performance wise than the 460 is. You'll be able to push 200+FPS in L4D2 with it, and be set for about 3-4 years for game system requirements.

Go for it.

Good processor tip, I might well be headed that way myself in the next few months.

As for graphics card...get the one with the longer warrantee.
