Are Websites to be Age Restricted?

It won't pass and such a problem is a dying issue since every average age of pc literate adults rises and thus are more aware of what kids get up to on the net and what games contain (since we play them.) As don't take a genius to put up an effective parental lock and since many will of had practice breaking them themselves in youth know all tricks their kids will use can stop them using them. As that only problem kid today know more about PC than their parents so can beat them at every turn and until that changes the nanny state will try and intervene as run by those who out the loop themselves on such issues.

While kids shouldn't be able to access stuff like this, realistically there is nothing anyone can do on a large scale would be totally temporary and almost definitely be cracked within a week. If parents would just take the time to tweak parental control settings, this problem would be solved. Parents need to take some responsibility for what their kid gets in to.

If people complain that the video game rating system is not protecting kids from buying violent video games, then why would a website rating system do anything to prevent kids from going on to mature websites?

How about you learn how to use an internet filter! For christ sake, it's not that hard, will cost far less, and can be adjusted depending on YOUR CHILDS level of maturity. Governing adults behavior for the sake of children is wrong. Take responsibility for yourself and your children. Open a book, learn something new, and you'll probably be happier for it!

I saw this. She was more like 9. No figure at all.

I Can say that! I'm young enough! Don't look at me like that!

On topic. Seriously, shut the fuck up, stop trying to get other people to control your kids, and control your spawn yourself.

Having said all that, he might have some trouble, the stallion. RRrrrrr.

Laws that can not be enforced should not have taxpayer dollars thrown at them.

Sorry, Burnham, do your own parenting.

Because after this step fails, as you and others have pointed out, the next step will be to try to make it mandatory, and/or stricter?

Not that that will work either, of course. But they'll keep trying.

He's such a bad role model though. Look at him! Not wearing a helmet, for starters.

The important question is, since all the bikes in the picture are the same size, does he have a really small one or has he given the poor buggers massive bikes just so he can win whatever race they're about to take part in?

I've always believed that porn sites should be put under the domain ".xxx" instead of .com, .org, etc... I've also always thought being able to block a said domain to be easier than age enforcement.

I do not, however, believe it will do any good for them to do anything at all, aside from the

Except then you get the argument about what is porn and what is not. And who would regulate that?

Ooh, I know what parents can do to ensure that their kids are only accessing appropriate stuff: PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR KIDS. Or even, better yet, don't get them their own laptop and game console and cell phone and television with cable.

"Sorry, sweetie, but you can have your own electronics when it's no longer against the law for you to post pictures of yourself in a bikini."

If you're going to decide that it's someone else's job to parent your kids by demanding that they take responsibility for guiding your children's access, it's only right that they have the right to show your kids whatever they want. Rights and responsibilities go hand-in-hand. The fact that you have the right to control what your kids see means that you have the responsibility to do it *yourself*.
Thank you, finally somebody said it. I'm tired of lazy parenting, because I end up having to pay for the results with my taxes.

This seems to be another example of the 'nanny state' at work. Which is a bad thing, but perhaps worse than that is the fact that people don't seem to be able to raise their own children. They should know if their child is responsible enough to use the internet on their own, or whether their fragile minds mean someone needs to be there all the time, watching them.

These parents are afraid of the responsibility of raising their own kids, and they're too cheap to hire a real babysitter, so they just dump their brats in front of the electronic babysitter in the hopes of getting them to sit still for a while so they don't have to watch them. But since they're too puritanical to believe their kids can handle anything to do with their naughty bits (despite the fact that the good old family values they're trying to impose on their kids dictate that everyone needs to enter into a heterosexual marriage and pop out even MORE kids they can't afford to raise, since a woman's place is to be a housewife and mother after all), they believe it's the web's job to keep their own sites pure and wholesome, rather than their own job to figure out the parental controls.

I'm all for this. A helpful guide for parents who can't watch over the computer all the time. Why not? We accept it for films. It can't do much wrong if the technicalities can be sorted out.

PG is a reccomendation not an order btw I believe. Children don't have to have an adult with them but it's recommended the adult checks out the film himself first.
