So, I went to the closed beta forums for The Secret World just to see what's been added since I last played about a month ago (game isn't for me). I noticed that their lead developer (Ragnar) had put out the official names of their 7 servers. The one RP server was named Faerie (All server names represent some kind of mythological creature/location). A few people complained about the name, so Ragnar changed the name to Arcadia. Not surprisingly, a shitstorm followed calling Funcom sellouts, spineless, and letting the vocal minority make decisions. Are we going too far trying to make sure that nobody gets their feelings hurt?

Wait, why did they complain about Faerie? I'm not really surprised that they did, after all, they were gamers and we know we love to complain about the dumbest things, but what were the reasons they cited?

I still don't get why the big uproar against Arcadia. The two names are equivalent enough, and Arcadia also sound slightly better (to me at least). That is a bit silly. It could have been worse they could have done a Reebok they named one of their women shoes 'Incubus' which is supposed to be the name of a demon that has sex with women while they're sleeping.
Good Lord, it's the fucking name of the server. It's not like they're making you name your character after it. And it's a hell of a lot more appealing than "Server 1, Server 2, Server 3, etc." I played an MMO called Final Fantasy XI a while back, and my home server was called Fairy. After a few years I moved to the server Hades with some friends, and then they merged some of the servers so I ended up on Odin. In my more than seven years of playing that game, I never heard of anyone being offended by the names of the servers and complaining to Square Enix about it. As I read down the thread, this seemed to be the big issue. Not the fact that they named A server "Faerie" but that they named the only RP server that. The rebuttal from a lot of people was "Good. Hopefully the name will keep all the immature homophobes out of our server."Witty Name Here said:
