Ok, I think most of you know what LoL is, by now (since the question is towards LoL players). Are you addicted to the game? Why? Because I know a lot of friends who spent countless hours in there (My best friends has unlocked 50-something champions). I've played it. I'm level 14 now. Sure, it's fun, but I doubt I can play more than a couple of matches before I get bored and play something else. And these guys play for 10 hours straight.

I just don't get what's so addictive about this game. And when I screw up sometimes, people want to see me burn at the stake. Also, the words "Noob" "Nabzor" "Dumbass" "Idiot" and "Troll" are very familiar with me.

Maybe it's because I don't like competitive multiplayer, I dunno, I just wanna play with my friends and have some fun. I don't mind if we lose, as long as we can have a few laughs.

So, to recap. What's so addicting about League of Legends?

I know to co-workers who have all the heroes cept one or two.
And about the namecalling etc, it's in every game. I get lolled at in MW2 because I have 11/9, instead of 34/1 or something. In WoW you get lolled at if you ask wether you should stack over .

And trust me... Heroes of new Earth is far more horrible in community, along with that other clone what'sitsfaceagain?

If you are playing ranked matches then yes, people will get in your neck for doing things the wrong way, and if you are playing the normal type and people ***** at you, just tell em to go to the ranked matches. Or even better. Just vote no with your buddy when losing ;) 9/10 times we still win even though we have no more towers =/

Addicting about LoL? I dunno, I don't play it that often. I guess it's the always fighting other types of opponents helps. Everyone plays a different way, skills a different way and thinks a different way. The tension of 'where' people are and 4 skills to manage make it challenging to become really good at it.

But that's saying you actually like this gameplay, instead of liking shooters or turnbased games.

I have no idea why people like it so much. If it had LAN play and I had 9 friends willing to play it, it might be a different story. But as it stands with the awful community and a meta I couldn't be bothered to learn, I'll stick to other games.

Me and a friend once compared LoL to the competitive multiplayer for SC2 and came up with some interesting points. For one, the community of SC2 is actually good. Either your opponent doesn't say anything, or they're polite. Very different story in LoL.

My friend told me that every new champion is either OV or IMBA. And that he's a copy/parody/plagiarism of other Dota/HoN characters. I don't know to what extent this is true, but I can definitely see some influence here and there ... for example, can you tell me that Akali DOESN'T Remind you of Mileena/Kitana/Jade from Mortal Kombat? Or Cho'Gath doesn't AT ALL look like a Zerg/Tyranid, or that clown from Spawn? :D

Or that Wukong doesn't look like... well Wukong?

I do agree that there isn't much inspiration behind these champion... and that Riot should just stop making new champions every 2 weeks. When is it gonna stop? When there's 200 of them? Each champion that gets released makes the game less balanced.

In regards to your OP, I used to spend entire days on LoL, but otherwise I am basically the same as you, I can't really play more than 2 games of summoner's rift. It's the competetive/social element of the game that draws people to play it, and the grinding part (IP/XP/rating) that makes them keep going.

I used to be into it, but frankly, it got a bit boring. And there are other problems with it...

For one, they seem to have no real interest in balancing the game for anything other than the classic 5v5 mode. They recently released a new mode, Dominion, to much hype, but they still refuse for some reason to give characters different stats for the new game type. Because of this, some characters are laughably over/underpowered in the new mode, but the staff have stood by the tenet that they will only support the classic mode, and not make significant balance alterations for the new map. Since the community waited over a year for this new mode, it kind of seems like a slap in the face to just not support Dominion to the extent that most want. (Plus, it's annoyingly devoid of any real team-based strategy, but that's another issue entirely.)

Also, most of the champions just don't have anything too interesting or fun about them. In HoN and DotA, the heroes are ridiculously diverse and keep you excited, since you always feel like you have one more tiny thing to master about them. In LoL, you can separate all the champions into about 5 groups; in each group, all the champions play more or less the same. Granted, there are some unique champions (Lee Sin, Twisted Fate, etc.), but their distinct mechanics either place them in the god-tier or the fail-tier, and generally nowhere in between. Riot basically chooses select champions to remain viable, and lets the others fall by the wayside. It kind of defeats the purpose of having 80+ characters when players will generally only pick 15-20 of them in a ranked game at any given time.

There are a lot of other minor things that irked me, but frankly, it would take way too long to go into all of them. I'm waiting patiently for Dota 2, though. That game looks plain amazing, and seems to do away with a lot of the things that made LoL so annoying to me. Namely, the fact that in Dota 2, it actually looks like the characters play significantly differently.

I'm a hardcore LoL fanatic. I love this game. I love the champions, the stories, the gameplay. I come back because the gameplay is something I'm not really dealing with elsewhere. Sure, it's your standard DOTA-esque game. A lot of the terms are standard. I get that.

But LOL's champions and solid abilities, clean interface, and well-engineered maps make it superior IMO. Your mileage may vary.

I thought that the original modders of Dota founded LoL somewhere. (but now they are on Valve's game. Not sure what happened in between though, could be I am wrong too.)

Besides, everything looks like everything in the end

The game isn't fun solo but with someone on skype its twice as fun. honestly the game is simple on the outside but there is a lot to it,level 14 isn't long time to grasp it. I only recently found I love playing tanks, maybe a change of champs might help you find your style.

Maybe the game isn't your thing, who knows.

Because bad as it is, the community is still marginally better than HoN's.

Meh. I admit that I am enjoying Dominion for the time being, but otherwise I am not big on LoL anymore. I have played both LoL and HoN since closed betas, and HoN is in my opinion the superior, more evolved game. LoL has way too many issues with balance, features, and design for me to really enjoy it anymore. That, and the community is usually functionally brain dead, making games feel more like luck of the draw. Thanks to Riot's anti-fun rules and engine limitations, champs almost never bring anything new to the table. The competitive scene is a joke, and as someone who really enjoys watching DotA 2 and HoN this is disappointing. I feel that Riot is comfortable being in the lead in the genre, and as such we won't see many changes. As such, I am no longer drawn to the game.

I play ONLY with friends now, because most people online are assholes. But since they've dedicated the majority of their free time to mastering this game, I feel like a fucking noob. And maybe I am. I just can't compete with the people who devote all the free time they have in mastering every single gank point, every strategy, every champion, etc. The only way I like to play is with Morde, because there's no mana with him, so I can just jump right in and start smashing some heads. I'm also decent with Cho'Gath, but he's a little tougher to master.

To quote Yahtzee "They say it's brilliant, but I don't know, I'm just not having fun". Maybe it's just not my thing. But until Serious Sam 3 comes out, I don't know how else to kill time.

No.

Not in the least.

Some of my friends have 1000+ plus wins, but i'm 80% certain they are also not addicted. Just been playing a while. like since the first month.

I'm not addicted, but the only thing that makes me want to play is the meta-currency of IP. Claiming a Win of the day bonus is the main reason I feel compelled to have another match. I couldn't get into HON until they implemented win of the day bonuses either. I've played close to 2k LoL games in just normal but I've stopped playing recently and I wonder if I would ever go back without the incentive. Carrying a team gives a satisfying feeling that could be addictive. Being an ex MMO addict, once I stop one addiction, I feel that I have to replace it with another and the MOBA genre has filled the gap for a while.

I never call anyone names or abuse them for playing poorly, but it does irritate me. It is the downside of a competitive game. I get abuse even when I play well because of ignorant thoughts (e.g. I'm dps shen because I have zerker greves and a frozen mallet, geez its as if they thought I bought an inf edge and 4 bloodthirsters or Omg jungler never ganks even though I gank constantly without success, whilst I ward both lanes and the enemy still ganks successfuly)
