Glam rock death metal?

As a musician, I give you 1 out of 5 stars on the one song I heard.
If that's directed at me we definetly are not a cover band at all, because all of our stuff is original music.
We all have a desire to create unique music, original music.
Yeah, you guys are not a cover band. You aren't Glam Rock either, I think I mean Arena Rock.

The riffs used are simple power chords tho, that's why I say I don't find it original.

Simple timing, and non-unique hooks/verses.

You are right tho, I haven't heard an 'underground scene' for 5 or so years. But if you are proud of what you do, don't let my opinions/tastes sway you.

I just want to let you know that I feel you should try for a unique sound, instead of a bland basic rip-off.
I don't know how you don't notice, but we use ALOT more techniques than just power chords and we change timing and tempo often. I know atleast three of the songs I posted have finger-tapping solos, tremolo picking, breakdowns, blast-beasts, and several intricate drum fills and patterns. I know what I do in particular isn't very "technical" as far as singing goes, but I have four distinct screams that I use and switch off constantly in each song.

All of which are done by every other Metalcore band ever. Generic but never the less super tasty, so it isn't really a bad thing.

The rest of the band needs to move more though.

My band has a song up, its a mix of all the songs that are going on the EP

http://www.myspace.com/pandema

Don't worry, proper vocals have been recorded and are being mixed as we speak.

Which is all we ever claim to be, hahaha. We're just a melodic hardcore/metalcore outfit, its not like we act like we're some super-technical death metal thing. Appreciate it though. And I agree, we need to move more, but we're working on that. We've only played two shows to date so we're all still getting our stage legs.

Haha I remember when I got my stage legs. It was pretty much a moment of "*click* Hey, I can rock out now"

My friend's in a band that's growing pretty quickly in California, though I guess having Gregg Allman's daughter as the vocalist helps out.

http://www.myspace.com/picturemebroken

My friend is the bassist, I was friends with him before he moved to California, when he was in South Carolina.

They've opened for some pretty big bands, so they're definitely on their way.

Finger tapping isn't really impressive for me, fancy picking is (I don't know what tremolo picking is, but if you care to keep the discussion going I will find out) blast-beats sounds funny, and what other kind of drum fills are there besides intricate ones?

The first 2 minutes of the first song you linked are all 1, 2, 3, 4, repeat until about the 2 min mark, then you changed the tempo a tad, then went right back to the same as the first part. That's generous since your internal timing changes like most bands when they play live. I hated my drummer for always playing faster live.

At best every other 8 count you start the same rif over and add a slight different ending to the same thing over and over. That's the Arena rock thing that I don't like. That plus the notes aren't really anything new, you guys sound like just another metal band with death vocals.

I don't want to sound like an ass (too late!) but I prefer older bands like Death (Spiritual Healing, the rest sucks.) Cynic (Focus was good, again the rest was crap) and maybe a suffo album or two.

Hell, I get laughed at by people for thinking Brutalitys' Screams of Anguish isn't bland, but you guys aren't even that good as far as I'm concerned. But I have been rather critical of you guys. You asked for thoughts, so I didn't hold back. So now I will let you judge the music I have written. I don't say I am better than you, but I do feel my opinions on your band held truth as far as I think.

My old band link: http://www.myspace.com/natehammondtrio

Only 2 songs are up, I gave up with the band long ago... but you should have a chance to judge me since I judged you guys.

No hard feelings, thanks for being cool, after my first response was rather shitty!
We're not trying to be a super technical band all the time though. Repitition and some simplicity is to be expected because while we do want to be good musicians and be technically profecient, we still aim for catchiness. We have an obvious death metal influence, but thats coupled with hardcore punk and alternative influences. Especially newer hardcore. I don't know where you get Arena rock from. Nothing we do is very theatric or "epic", and we definetly have no plans of Arenas, hell, we'd be happy to headline Warped Tour at the peak of our career. We don't play to show off, we play to make people mosh and have fun really. So if you're accusing us of not having the most complicated song structure, then you're accusing us of something we're not really trying for. You're opinion is your own and I appreciate the time you gave our stuff, but don't think that just because I growl sometimes and we tune low that we're trying to be the next Death or Decapitated. Also, just remember you're hearing a recording that was done on a low-end digital camera.

Me and three guys I know play. We started out playing pretty straight punk rock, with the occasional metal, but have sort of developed a sound that I'd say is sort of a mixture of indie and punk rock more than anything else. We've done one studio recording:

We've done a couple live shows as well:

This one is good quality but missing a few seconds of video (from before we changed out name to The Last Full Measure):

And this is a video of us playing one of our earlier songs, unfortunately without our drummer:

Not really, but hopefully there's a death metal band nearby where I can try out as the singer. o_O

I can't but help get the feeling that you're trying a little to hard to flex your music muscles. There is nothing Arena Rock about Ares's band.. at all.. That 8 bar riff thing you talk about is pretty key in Metalcore, and accusing a Metalcore band of being repetitive is like accusing a Jazz band for making stuff up. Not every band is interested in the progression of music, some dudes just like to play and make people dance around.

I am, actually. It's a parody-ish extreme metal band, titled Regurgitated Pelvic Intestinal Blood. I'm the co-vocalist, with four guitarists, a drummer, a bassist, and somebody who whacks a gong every now and then. Yeah it's overkill, but it's good fun and serves as a splendid exercise in making sure the blood vessels in our ears are up to code.
I might actually join a band that knows how to play at some point when I feel like I've had enough practice with bass and my singing.

I'm in bands but not in the guitar/vocalist/bassist/percussionist mold. Sorry! But a lot of these videos reveal great talent here on the Escapist!

Actually, I've been trying to get some friends together to do just that, but I've only gotten one of them to agree. And unfortunately, we both play guitar and neither of us can sing. I've written some songs that I think are pretty good on my own though, so if we can just find some more talent, we'll be good to go!

And we'll find a drummer, bassist, keyboardist, and singer soon! [small]Hopefully...[/small]

I'm in-between bands right now. I've got a bunch of dedicated, talented guys, committed to working on something with me, but they're all going away to different places for the summer, so I'm gonna write a dickload of material so we can get to work once they all get back.(I'm a guitarist/vocalist/lyricist)

EDIT: Just realized I prolly didn't need to mention I'm a guitarist, since I'm holding a guitar in my pic. Whatever. lol

i am indeed, where jsut getting started though, i do alot of acoustic stuff where its just me and i play a mix between electric classical and flemenco guitar but in the whle band thing i play electric violin rythum and sing lead (not all at the same time... though i can play electic violin/guitar and sing)
problem is where not going to be a band much longer :( lets call it creative diffrences, or more... being in a band with people who never play there instruments...
so any one in london needs a singing guitar playing violinest ;) message me im full of cool band names 2, and i can write lyrics, id same im good but lyrics are such a personal thing that i guess one mans good is anothers shit. so i write the dark metophorical crafted stuff with deep lashings of irony. (in my mind if the lyrics arnt something special, the singing cant be.) im pritty good with improvising 2, so i can jam with lyrics its fun to be jamming with friends with lyrics and then thinck...and theres are chorus.... :p
i kinda wana go solo but i dont have the confidence its fine being frontman when you have a band playing to cover up your mistakes, but on you're own is terrifying, im yet to preform any acoustic stuff live or even show it 2 any one but freinds... odd for a front man who loves attention to lack solo confidence :(
