Are you into photography?

Hey there.

So, I was wondering if there are users on the Escapist who are into photography, be it amateur or professional, film or digital users. If, so what do you prefer: film or digital? What camera do you use and what are you in to (landscape, street, fashion, etc)? I am a film only wannabe street photographer and I'm currently using a Zenit E with a 50 mm lens.

Hope to see at least some photographers.

p.S: I did a search to see threads, but I found a thread made last month (April 1) which had only one response from Kukul

I'm an amateur, but with some classes behind me. I prefer film and have an old Nikon, mostly because I like to switch it to fully manual. When I was in school, I used to have access to the dark room, and developing my own prints was both much more fulfilling than dropping them off at a lab and also a good way to have some time to myself.

Most of what I photograph tends to be whatever I happen to find interesting at the time. When I road tripped through the Smokey Mountains, I took a lot of landscapes and also some wildlife shots. In New York City, I did more street photography and took a few of people and vehicle's reflections in all the glass. I really liked a few of those.

My Nikon's been slowly dying though, and its so ancient most of the places I've brought it to don't think they can fix it. I have a pretty decent digital, but that's always been my camera for parties or quick snapshots. It loses detail if you try to do anything too difficult or, say, nighttime shots. I don't have the money to get a new camera right now, so mostly I just take out the Nikon and hope it keeps working. But it's eaten about two rolls of film now, so every shot I take I have to pray (and I'm not even religious) it doesn't destroy all the shots before it.

I cant call myself a photographer, but one day I decided to go out and buy a piece of nifty electronics cause I felt every man should have a (digital) camera. Then offcourse, I got all artsy and went out to take picture of stuff that I found interesting. (There are alot of WWII bunkers scattered across the dunes lining the coast near my town)

Nice to see another film user around. Sucks about your Nikon. On the bright side, though, there are a lot of cheap and functional film cameras on ebay. I got my Zenit from there, and my bro bought his Zorki S ("Zorki C" for all who are familiar with russian stuff).

Yes with telescopic lenses.. from far away... while no ones the wiser.
Man up and buy a 50mm lens. I double dare you.
That way I could take pictures of celebrities in LA from my house in San Fransisco. But that would take so much of the human touch out of stalking.

Anyway, I use a digital camera, it's a DSC-W170 Sony Cybershot, I'm trying to minmize how much money I pour into it.

I take pictures of everything except people. ('cause they're borin')

I was so sad.

It's partly that. But I just really hate having my picture taken, for no real reason.
But what about real reasons, like a police mugshot?

If you are implying I have ever had the police take my photograph, you are incorrect in your assumption.
If you are implying I would let them do so, you are also wrong.
I was implying that you would be forced to stand for the mugshot. Not implying you were or are going to get arrested. Anyway, let's get this show back on the road.

A lot of people like to call themselves photographers when they do little artistic photography, so I guess loop me in there.

I just take pictures of sunsets and stuff, and change small things about them in Photoshop.

yeah, you're right when people say they're photographers when they take pictures of themselves and have nor artistic merit(I hate those chavs, not reffering to people on the Escapist, of course). That's why I mentioned amateur or proffesional. :p
