Are You Worried About Skyrim

I honestly think in order for something to be my GOTY it needs to be great in all areas. Gameplay, story, graphics, stability, etc. I would never have called God of War 3 my GOTY since its story is completely stupid at this point. Fallout New Vegas or Mass Effect 2 couldn't be mine since New Vegas had stability problems up the ass while Mass Effect 2 had a huge amount of glitches all over, a main story that was completely horrid, and writing that was only good half of the time. Guess what my RPG of 2010 was. I bet no one will.

Ys Seven for the PSP

While I can fully understand what Bethesda try to do with The Elder Scrolls games by trying to pack as much as they possibly can into the game when it barely runs is that price worth it?

YS seven was an obscenely awesome game, but the lack of new game plus and higher difficulties, or any real end game content other than farming the monsters before the last boss for ultimate weapon mats gave it a really finite lifespan, which is a shame, because I loved every second of my first playthrough. And oh god that soundtrack <3 xD.

Edit: Got sidetracked, what I was trying to point out was that the lack of real end game content WAS a major flaw against the game, so it isn't really fair to say that your game of the year has to be perfect in every regard and then use a game with a glaring flaw like that.

Again though, still a solid 9/10 atleast.

if its not too buggy, i.e. actually works on my machine, and if it has a decent editor for players to make mods/etc.., then i'll be happy w/it. If not out of the box, then down the road when inventive players mod the hell out of it.

so my biggest concern is the editor.

Never had a game breaking problem with Oblivion, just that one bug where the ork falls of a bridge and kills himself so you can't buy the house in Skingrad... big deal.
Also "pick up the pace" HELL NO! That why I love Oblivion and Morrowind, I never felt obligated to do anything quickly. I could play it at my own pace, and that's a big part of the immersion experience.

Ok I figured this mistake would happen. Should have tried harder to make it clear then. I don't mean it has to be perfect but it has to be very strong in all areas. Like I said with GOW3 no matter how much fun I had with it the story is still completely worthless. Though for Ys Seven I don't really care for things like new game plus with them. Honestly there's a lot of games I only play once since I know everything going to happen so I just don't see meaning in it.

Unless Skyrim ships with some kind of anti-Morrowind software, destroying my computers ability to play Morrowind ever again, I'll be fine.

I expect to like it less than Morrowind but more than Oblivion. If that's what happens, which looks very likely, then I'll have gotten my money's worth.

They've eliminated the whole thing where people die and don't turn up. i've literally never experienced any bugs in any Bethesda games ever, I don't know why but I just haven't. I'm not worried for Skyrim at all.

Who's "GOTY" are we talking about? My own personal GOTY? Or the "general consensus" "GOTY"? Metacritics "GOTY" based on review scores?
I'm confused.

Anyway, I have no worries concerning Skyrim.
The Elder Scrolls is my favourite gaming series. They've got my "GOTY" in the bag - it's theirs to lose from there. Would bugs and glitches shatter Skyrim's chances? No more than Oblivion's or Fallout 3's. If the game is good enough, it can overcome those problems. The trick will be making the game good enough in the first place. From what I've seen, they've done that.

However, if I get my hands on the game and it's all action, no depth, all console-gamer friendly and no PC-gamer friendly, Skyrim will simply be "a bad PC port". Like Oblivion was. If they can simply match Oblivion, they've already beaten just about every RPG out there. Dark Souls is seriously good - but it's hard to top the open world of an Elder Scrolls.
If they polished it up and fixed all crap, added back some of the depth and made the story actually interesting, Skyrim is an instant classic and one of the greatest games of all time.
Shit, killing Dragon's alone is worth the asking price for most gamers.

Sadly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will this year's "general consensus" "GOTY". It'll sell the most, reviews will suck up Activision Blizzard's ass for that precious advertising money and drop 9s and 10s like they did for the last one, and it'll be the most talked about game of the year.

No. The game looks to good to let me down. Have you seen the new footage? You can use necromancy on chickens! Call in dragons to help you fight other Dragons! There are 6 different type of Dragons! You can freeze solid little bunnies! So to say again I am not worried about Skyrim at all.

I honestly never have had any major problems with these two games. I may be biased as Fallout 3 is my favourite game ever made with Oblivion following second. If Skyrim was half of any of these games, it would still be great. So no, I am not worried.

Skyrim has already beat any other game coming out this year in my books.

I'm a modder.

Games like Fallout 3, NV, Morrowind, Oblivion and now Skyrim are where I get to do whatever the hell I want.

Want a massive castle to put mannequins in and show off my armour and weapons? No problem i'll bloody make myself one.

Want some shiny new armour? Give me a couple of hours.

New weapons? Doing that too.

Flying Mounts? They were made for Oblivion (Akatosh mounts for those that never heard of them, you can also get a pegasus mod that flies) so we'll have them in Skyrim.

I get 600 - 1000 hours+ out of those games with mods and all kinds of crap you can do to the games.

Thats a hell of a lot more time than I get out of nearly every other game I got his year combined.

It doesn't matter if the gae is fantastic or sucks giant hairy monkey balls. I can change things to how I want them to be if I don't like them. I can add to it, constantly.

I still play Morrowind thats now modded beyond recognition. Fallout 3 no longer looks like the Capitol Wasteland. New Vegas is no longer a desert.

The joy of games like that is being able to do whatever the hell you want ..... unless you are on a console then you're stuck with the basic.

No, it's going to be good. I feel it, maybe a little dungeon happy, but that didn't stop me from loving Oblivion neither.

Yes I have played Oblivion and Fallout 3 and enjoyed both games immensely, however, they were always games to be played in bursts. I don't think I sat down with either one for more than a couple of hours before moving to something else.

Can't say I share the problem. I used to sit for hours on end day after day playing both games. And I've played through both games several times (and don't even get me started on Morrowind which I spent months on playing the same character).

The reason? The stories and characters. I know this is a common complaint, but man do these games have to pick up the pace. How many times...

Not enough to counter the times where the game ran perfectly smoothly. It happened from time to time, sure, but was never an issue for more than the few seconds it took me to resolve it or just load a previous save and do it again.

This lack of polish and detail always made me a little disappointed when I explore the lands. It also makes me worried about Skyrim. Now I'm not going to get Skyrim opening day, hell I'll probably get it after a year or so when the price drops and its all patched up, so obviously I'm not as big a fan as most on the internet. I'm worried that so many people will be so excited for Skyrim that it will get super high ratings and GOTY awards even if it ends up falling short, or that many people will feel like they wasted their money on a game they thought was going to be perfect but had issues.

You do realise a lot of people buying the game is good right? You don't patch a crappy game, but when you've got 10 million complaints on your hands, you tend to move your ass on the issue. Also, again, I've never had any issue with lack of polish and detail in Elder Scrolls games. I accepted the few lacking bits and pieces, because it's not hard to see that to make a world that huge, that expansive and featuring new and innovative design points (Radiant AI etc.), a bug's bound to crop up once in a blue moon.

I don't think Skyrim doesn't deserve GOTY. I can't say, I haven't played it yet. I'm just worried that peoples excitement may ruin the game for them, and may cause them to overlook other great games this year (I'm looking at you Skyrim vs Dark Souls topics).

Well, not an issue for all of us. For one, the PC gamers won't give a shit about Dark Souls one way or another as they're not given the chance to play it. More importantly however, it's not the sort of game to appeal to everyone. And I'm not just talking about the difficulty.

I..never had any of those problems. At all. I love Bethesda games. So, no, I can't say that I'm worried even remotely.

Not worried in the slightest, my friends played it a Eurogamer (Sadly I couldn't attend) and they said it's everything that we have been waiting for.

All of the best bit's of Oblivion, some more interesting enviroments a la Morrowind and just made much better in all aspects, cannot wait.

And as for people saying it's just Oblivion but with a bigger budget and more polish, and that it won't be anything like Morrowind? Exactly what I wanted. Morrowind had horrid gameplay, but I loved Oblivion's and and to be honest whilst a few more fantasy landscapes would be nice I really do prefer the standard sort of fields and forests and mountains. I love that just slight grounding in reality to really immerse me, Shivering Isles was my least favourite place to be on Oblivion, couldn't stand the area.

The Only Two Things Im worried about are.
a) Game wont arrive 11.11.11 in my house as its My Country stupid Holliday and its Friday.
b) 150 Dungeons? Srsly? I mean Dungeons Bethsada, not random caves one meter deep with a chest and two ruffians. You say there are 150 different dungeons you better show them real and nice.

I would buy it even if it would be on Oblivion engine with no additional technical changes or anything else. As long as there is a new map/world/quests.

I don't usually get annoyed by repeat threads, but these what if thread's on whether or not Skyrim is going to be good are getting to me. Honestly, you've probably already made up your mind on whether or not you're buying this and until you actually sit down and play it you'll never know if it's good or not... So no I do not spend my waking hours worrying about whether Skyrim is going to be good or not, because frankly everything I've seen and the people I've talked to who've played it tell me one thing that this game is going to be awesome, especially for fans of previous bethesda games. Sorry I don't mean to sound mean when it comes to these threads, I just find the whole premise of what if's very-very stupid.
