Arkansas becomes first state to pass bill prohibiting doctors from providing gender-affirming medical care to trans youth

The state Senate voted 28-7 in favor of the bill Monday; the state House previously passed a version. It now goes to the governor for signature.

Arkansas, you are on a roll of "fuck you, healthcare" this month, aren't you?

Currently sitting on the desk of Governor Hutchinson, HB 1570 not only prohibits doctors from providing trans teens with HRT or gender reassignment surgery, but also prohibits the doctors from referring trans teens to other doctors for treatment. Should Hutchinson sign this bill into law, it will be the first state to actively block trans teens from getting medical help.

As the article states, the idea of preventing teens from getting HRT/gender reassignment surgery has been shown in studies to have long-term negative effects, making the name of this "SAFE Act" a complete farce. Also, "Save Adolescents from Experimentation"? The fuck is wrong with Arkansas?

Well fuck, this sucks, but first to correct something, medical transitioning on trans teens doesn't include HRT anywhere nor does it include any surgeries of any kind, the only things that are done is prescribe puberty blocking medicine, which is generally considered safe enough to be given to children as young as 8 years old due to a medical condition called precocious puberty, which is exactly what it sounds like and generally has no long lasting physical effects and is mostly prescribed for the psychological well being of those children, and like maybe the doctor will recommend you a voice trainer, besides that it's mostly psychological care and not much else.

So I just want to make it clear this is exactly what they're preventing a treatment which is considered safe enough that the medicine used is literally over-the-counter pills for other medical conditions that are not being transgender and it's considered to be fully reversible and have very little in the way of long-lasting side-effects, minors aren't provided with any of the more permanent medical procedures relating to trans-people, so basically this is all bullshit.
