Ok, so I've decided to come out of my posting hibernation to ask this question.

Last year, I rented Arkham Asylum for my PS3, and it worked fine. Now I've rented it again, almost a year later, and started a new game.

I got to the part right after you beat up the guys trashing your batmobile, and then I blasted a hole in a wall and tried to go through a door. A loading symbol popped up in the corner, and it froze. I tried it again and it said "The game data is corrupted. You must delete the game data to play this game."

So I delete the game data, and start the game up again, knowing it's going to have to install again. I leave it for a while, come back, and it's still installing. It never stops. So I quit and checked my game data, to find that it never installs past 937MB (it's supposed to install 1.2GB at the initial install). I've tried it multiple times, and even played another game in between that works fine, so I know my PS3's not busted. I don't know what to do, so I'm turning to you Escapists.

TL;DR: Arkham Asylum for the PS3 is not completing it's mandatory initial installation. What do I do?

First, check if it's the disc.

If it's not the disc, find an electrician or if it's still in warrant, send it to them.

I checked the disc. There are a few minor scratches, but nothing that would prevent it from installing.

Ask a freind if you can check it against their system, double check it.

Ya, I was thinking of doing that with my neighbour. More updates as they happen lol.

Umm scratches of any size can be big enough to stop installation, and you shouldn't of had to delete the "game data" when the file froze just the "game save data" that got corrupted. Anyways I'd say try the install on another system if if it works else where if it works there then try it at home again,if not return it to the rental store/site and explain it won't install to your system 100% and request a new copy.

I deleted the save data (moved it to a USB drive), and installed it and it worked. Started a new game on Hard, got back to the same spot and it happened again. Tried starting a new game on Medium, and it happened again at the same spot. I'm convinced that it's the disc, but I rented it for free at the Library, which I'm pretty sure only has 1 copy, so that sucks. At least I got it for free.

Yeah you'll have to get a new copy to get past that area but the 1st copy should(could)be fine for the rest of the game.

Ya that's what I was thinking. I kept trying, thinking that if I could just get past that part I would be fine...but it never happened. Oh well, I'll just buy it when I finally get a job.

Well, since it's a rental, take it back and get a new one.
