The game was the cover feature of the most recent Game Informer. It sounds like Rocksteady is still providing some guidance and technical expertise while they work on their own, as yet unrevealed, projects, which is probably to the good (if nothing else it suggests there wasn't acrimony behind the new game being turned over to this team and that the originators probably have a degree of confidence that they can pull it off.)
What I find unfortunate is... Black Mask. It seems he will play a major role, if not out-and-out be the primary villain like Joker was in Asylum.
...I @$%#ing hate Black Mask.
Not because he's a sadistic psychopath- he is, but there are plenty of, shall we say, less than sociable characters in Batman's rogues gallery. The Joker even has an odd sort of charm as he goes on his balmy way, killing people.
But because, from what I've read of him, he largely succeeds by having the Power To Make Everyone Around Him Suddenly and Inexplicably Incompetent. Suddenly, characters don't realize people they've known all their lives are acting strangely. Suddenly, the World's Greatest Detective doesn't recognize that he's part of a script from his own playbook. Suddenly, people who spend half their lives subduing superhuman monsters fail to properly take out someone who's basically an ordinary human being, leading to him getting the upper hand.
The only thing I like about the character is how he died- that basically the arrogance he'd picked up from recognizing that crappy writers had given him Plot Armor caught up with him and he got his head blown off by someone he thought wouldn't go that far.
Time will tell, of course; it could be that the Origins writers have a new and novel take on the character that will make him intriguing rather than irritating. I just wish they'd gone a different direction.
