Here in Detroit Metro, people get food stamps on debit cards called "Bridge Cards."
They typically get 400-800$ a month to spend on groceries with these cards. Since very few actually need to spend that much, a ridiculous amount of people sell them for cash (usually half price) to people who actually need to purchase that amount of groceries every month.
The result is millions of dollars of government aid wasted on people who don't qualify for it or need it.
I realize the instance in the story of the thread is petty, but where should the line get drawn?
On the other hand, any amount of money the middle and lower class can cheat the government out of is a paltry sum compared to what corporations and the upper 1% duck in taxes.
I'm torn. I hate the ignorant hood mentality, but the cheating upper crust pisses me off enough to root for the underdog.

I'm so glad I'm out of school... It just seems like they're getting more and more idiotic by the day.
This is worse than my old school cutting back on funding the music classes when our High School band wins more awards than any of our sports teams. It's as if to say "Hey we're excelling in something, let's change that!"

If that shit was true than I should have landed several hundred million in fines for sharing my free lunches with my group of friends every single day of high school. We would each get something different in stupid proportions, than share to our hearts content while playing D&D.
AH! Okay, I understand now. That one student that gave away the Chicken Nugget wasn't allowed to eat meat for a set period of time, due to the fact he was fasting. So he gives it to his friend who wanted it so it didn't go to waste, which is entirely sensible.
Now the problem with this is, is that the kid who is fasting is getting school food for free... probably through a program that's federally run. Now! This is illegal due to the fact that the child isn't paying for it so he doesn't have permission to give it away, but the child given it is the one held accountable because he isn't protected by this program. That or an oversight was made, either way... this is the fault of the fact the Principal actually wasted everyone's time instead of, you know, firing the lunch lady and saving money. And the cops are obliged to respond. Now, what adds to this confusion is that apparently they don't have or should have policies on this, like telling the kids why what they're doing is illegal and why the school can get into trouble.
So this is really the fault of two very stupid people - lunch lady and principal - while everyone else has agreed this was a waste of resources and downright baffling. Now watch! More money will be wasted in an investigation of what the hell just happened. Gotta love Bureaucracy, right?

So they're basically taking away the rights of owning an item. By rights, I should be able to free myself from my possessions if I wish to, and give it to someone else. It's even worse than the lunch ladies in schools who force you to eat your entire lunch. I thought we had passed this kind of dictatorial behavior. Oh well, my dreams of a semi-capitalistic free world don't seem so popular.
I've been watching that as well. It's surprising how much red tape there is around the school scene. It's one of the reason I gave up trying to be a teacher. I spent 2 years taking education classes in college after doing plenty of volunteer teaching as a high schooler. Better be careful about donating your kidney to your family. Those protein building blocks that you're sharing might be from federal lunch. You could get busted for that!

If it was even illegal, this brings me back to the following;
Laws are useful tools but 'law' does not necessarily mean 'just' or 'right'. Indeed, there are many things deemed illegal that were arguably the right thing to do; example, a man finding a discarded (I think it was loaded) shotgun and turning it in to a police station (The man was concerned it may cause harm if simply left there.
