I'm always for stylization and color as a general rule.

Trying to come up with something more specific and original, maybe something that looks like Soviet animation. I haven't watched very much myself, but it would be a nice experiment.

Caravaggio, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Titian, Rubens, Rembrandt....all great artists of the Renaissance and the adjacent periods. Theirs is a somber, yet delicate "realistic" style, glossified yet unique in form and shape.

More simplistic cel-shading art styles.

They're just more appealing, and ironically more expressive than the realistic graphics we keep trying to progress.

I was totally thinking of this kind of art style. It's the same art style (made by the same guy, Yasufumi Soejima) as a couple music videos I really like: Forsaken by Dream Theater and Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park. I think it would make for beautiful game animation.

Super Saturated colors like Mirror's Edge.

One of the best looking games out there.

Seconded, the visual style that game presented really sticks out in my mind. The only issue I had with that game's graphics is the characters faces looked ancient by graphical standards. That and the cutscenes...

Dear god, the cutscenes...

I'd like to see a game with an over-the-top, neon-on-black art style. Something like a dark science fiction or cyberpunk style. Deus Ex: Human Revolution looks nice, somewhat similar to what I'm thinking of with its black and gold decor advertised so far. But rather than be a game about an acid trip - I'm about sick of seeing those all over PSN and XBLA - a game with an actual plot and characters.

The art in Gankutsuou really did make it memorable. It makes me think of another art style in particular

I think a game that had this style of art would be pretty cool. And have the soundtrack by Daft Punk for good measure. Awesome!

I'd like to see more games attempt a sort of...patchwork feel. Some games have done something similar (I think Torchlight had something close) but I have et to see a game pull of the old, once loved toy-like feel that patchwork things bring.
Does Little Big Planet not count as that?

Come to think about it, Little Big Planet has a really awesome visual theme going for it. And it's the only game where I can care about customizing my characters.
Oh yeah, Little Big Planet completely skipped my mind. EVERYTHING in that game has a patchwork look to it. Still, that's only one.
Banjo Kazooie N&B has a patchwork feel to it, even the clouds hang by wires in one of the worlds.

Something in surrealism style. I'm thinking Salvador Dali, René Magritte or Max Ernst. A completely whacky world where anything could happen for any reason.

But my most interest is not with textures or shaders but LIGHT, how rooms are lit, transparency, occlusion, reflection and diffusion...
Unfortunately full physics based lighting is not something you can pull off in realtime yet.

cubism. it'd be nice to play a game where you don't know what anything is.

At least some of the stages of Yoshi's Story would fit that description pretty well, too.

I -really- dig Shadow of the Colossus's blurred graphics. Felt like I was waltzing through a Claude Monet painting at times.

Wind Waker was also very cute.

I personally would like to see a Jhonen Vasquez styled platformer. Platformer art is usually really good nowadays, what with those pie-eating time-benders making their own style. There was one I remember from a preview, before the animated disney film; 'The Road to Eldorado' I think, where the protagonist's weapon was a yo-yo. That had really good art. If anyone can tell me the name of that game, I'd be delighted!

Cubism could be fun in a game, it was used as anything more then a gimmick

Machinarium also had a beautiful art style, and Eufloria and Shank showed that vectorial art could be used brilliantly videogames.

I really like WindWaker's style. It was refreshing.
