Ironically I only read Something Awful for 'your band sucks'. Haven't read it since Thorpe left. From what I'm seeing though the quality has gone downhill since some of the bigger names left.

I'm still amazed they get away with charging for their forums.
Wait, hang on.

(Before you read what I say afterwards, bear in mind that this is the only forum that I have ever been on)

People charge for forum use?

Meh...Its Something Awful its not like I pay attention to that place anyway.
I don't get what humour or angle they aim for so this doesn't really interest me in the slightest, I couldn't be bothered trying to determine if this guy is either burning on Yahtzee or the Imp legion that worship him.
I think that's sort of the point. SA stuff always balances somewhere between offensive and pathetic, trying to rake in as much hate for as many reasons as possible. Like I said, it's organized trolling.

I like their Photoshop Phriday though.

Yeah... I saw this as a typical Something Awful article, overall it means absolutely nothing, it's not a news site, none of it's articles are supposed to thought of as factual in any way.

Interesting (to me) side note, if SA didn't cost money to join I'd probably be there instead of here (that's right you think about that, you were this close to never having to put up with my presence

I also love Photoshop Phriday, only reason I still go back to the site on occasion. Though I now much prefer the feel of this place, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't prefer this site so much if it was (as they jokingly said) only comprised of bleating Yahtzee fanboys.

Well, I read it...

Do I get a cookie?

It had some funny points, but over all, if Yahtzee left, I would still post on the Escapist. I came for the videos, but I stayed for the sense of community and fellowship tha tthe forums provide. You guys are like a family to me.
ditto

What?

When was he here?

I also remember that site trying to sign yahtzee (don't know where I heard that), anyway I don't trust a site that thinks of itself so highly.

Here is diffrent, we all think we're better than each other.

SA should be called something more like, "whinybitches.com" (if it's not already taken that is).

Seriously though, I can't tell if they're really hating Yahtzee and the escapist, or if in a wierd kinda way are overly obsessed with it all. Website's like that are full of people that are either so jealous of something like the escapist or Yahtzee (I for one am jealous of Yahtzee, I've wanted his job since I was kid) or their people who are just dying that someone will listen to their cries of inhumanity being put on the internet, so "they" can say "Hey we're popular too, just listen to what we have to complain about now".

And do they not realize that Yahtzee is a critic. Critics thrive off people who give them hated feedback it's like throwing fuel onto a fire it just makes critics like Yahtzee look even better. So way to go SA (clap, clap) you are now fucktards all of you.

To them, and to others like them, I say...SHUT THE HELL UP

It would be best for all of us. But whatever, I just wanted to get that out.

I'm still slightly astonished by the number of people who have missed the point.

Nice way to make people feel insecure.

You've gota say what the point is even for those who got it.

Um..I think folks may be missing the tongue-in-cheek nature I see clearly running rampant through that article. The author seems to be poking fun at the denizens of SA's overwhelming desire to hate everything and anything. I'm not taking sentences like "You can't really find any valid reason to hate this guy no matter how hard you try. At least if he were female we could accuse her of being an attention whore or something." too seriously...are you?

The article's main thrust -- that people love to hate Yahtzee simply because others love him -- is entirely valid. As for his claim that no-one had ever heard of The Escapist before Yahtzee showed up...well, that's obviously untrue, but it's a pretty common perception.

I thought it was actually pretty amusing, overall.
That, right there, was the point. SA has always been very tongue-in-cheek, you can't take anything it says seriously.

It's the Internet, you can't take anything on it too seriously anyways otherwise you'll probably have a heart attack lol.
I only personally came to know of The Escapist when I heard of Zero Punctuation and have been on these forums ever since.

This is hilarious.

And for the record, he actually likes Yahtzee. He hates the swirling mass of crap and fans that surround him.
So do I. In fact, I'm currently running an experiment to test if ZP is better without the crap.
I just finished watching the last 4 ZP's and ignoring all comments about them.

Now *shudder* I'm going to watch the next 4 that come out, then go and read as many of each weeks responses as I can without causing permanent damage (say up page 4 or 5). I'm aiming to prove that it is a lot funnier if you leave all the angry criticisms and fanboy defenses out.

Wish me luck.
Good luck, young fellow! I shall toast you with my finest wine!

"All I know if that he's a very handsome man who in my most erotic fantasy is personally reviewing my favorite video game to me in his signature style while his mouth is wrapped around my dick, his witty commentary muffled by the sound of my cum-spewing cock. A man can dream, can't he?"

Everyone agrees, right?

'I, on the other hand, will continue to suppress my rage at the thought of Yahtzee's unbridled success and continue to enjoy his videos even if the new intro is awful and those things he puts in after the review is over are retarded.'

To be perfectly honest, this is pretty true. I love his reviews but I detest the music and long adverts.

No, I think he means the little sidenotes that he adds after the review; not the ads.

While I agree on the new start/end theme, I actually like the little captions.

This reminds me of the time I said I disliked Yahtzee, Something Awful and trolls. The ultimate combination has finally arrived, who will ever stop it?
SA is made of trolls, it is in legion with EncyclopediaDramatica, 4chan, 12chan, all the bloody chans, and ebaumsworld so trusting it and taking it seriously isn't entirely advised on my part.

What?!

Something Awful MOCKED someone?!

ON MY INTERNETS?!?!

...seriously, I think there's just a bunch of people who are jealous that their hats aren't nearly as spiffy as Yahtzee's.

That really is a spiffy hat.

That's just a free pass for trolling, which is exactly what they use it for. Like I said before, I think it's childish. "We didn't really mean it" doesn't excuse being a jerk.

Or people that just hate the things he outlined in the article, which you probably ignored.

I like your style, kid, you totally hit the nail on the head with that one.

I read the articles and feature content the same way AI read a newspaper, if it's interesting to me I click on it. I'm not a big SP reader, but I know it's there and I've given it a chance, and when I was studying game's journalism "The Escapist" came up on more than one occasion "Yahtzee" didn't once.

No doubt a lot of people are here for ZP and nothing else. That's fine, I only tune into the BBC for Dr. Who and A&E for Law & Order reruns. But The Escapist existed for quite some time before ZP and without it ZP wouldn't be anything. Chicken / Egg?

I guess the people on the SA forums only stop by for ZP, but what about everyone else?
