Hmmm, well to be honest I kind of think stuff like this moves in a circular direction. I have been thinking that the next big kid/young adult fad that went beyond them was going to be something science fiction related. Not this per se, but something with a similar vibe to a "Harry Potter In Space". The "Space Cadet" used to be a stereotype for a reason, and I'd imagine it's so old that it's new now, not to mention that one of the most influential science fiction characters you've never likely heard of is "Telezy Amberdon" is is a psionic school girl (and honor student) written by James Schmidt in his "Federation Of The Hub" stories which themselves inspired a ridiculous number of the science fiction staples you see today.
Look at this as sort of being prophetic, we probably won't see any kind of direct "Harry Potter in space" works, but give it a decade or so and you'll probably be looking at something very similar to what shown here without the iconic characters. Complete with people saying "hey this is just Harry Potter in space!", similar to how when Harry Potter got started people were talking about how similar it was to some other ideas about apprentice wizards, albiet a lot of the referances were not things known to the mainstream. Harry Potter succeeded more on the merits of doing what it did well, rather than being totally original, and we're liable to see that again.
Sadly, at 35 it probably won't be until I'm grandparent-age (even if I never plan to have children or grand children) until we see another serious attempt at Young Adult Horror. When things like "Fear Street" came out I was getting old enough to be outside the target audience (and always read above my age level anyway) but could appreciate the attempt for what it was, and thought the contreversy at the time was a good thing. Sadly it died out though, and the author(s) decided to focus on the far less offensive and contreversial "Goosebumps" which remains a franchise to this day.
Ah well, my rambling is getting increasingly irrelevent.
Neat art work though, a little too heavily stylized for my tastes though. Makes me think I'm looking at an Esurance commercial.
