What we could do is all come up with a code of conduct, which is not actually enforcably binding, and ask a friendly moderator (or Wilson) to post it as an adendum to the posting guide thread.Inverse Skies said:Well now that's the next challenge we face as a community. How do we go about solving these issues? As they seem to have been going on for quite some time now. And yes, seeing as they don't break any rules per se it is hard for the moderators to come down on them. But they shouldn't have to, we as a community should be governing ourselves like that.cuddly_tomato said:How about a community charter? An Escapist code of honourable conduct between postees? Something that breaking will not have any consequences other than loosing the respect of the rest of the Escapees and having to earn that respect again? As I understand it the problems you are talking about are not the kinds of things that contravine the rules, but just the general hostility that some people display that can make people feel a bit uncomfortable about joining/getting involved in discussion.
I think this topic might be too hard for just you or I to solve ourselves. Prehaps if we start a discussion between some of the more senior members of this site as well as with the moderators we might be able to come up with a community enforced code of conduct?
If I were looking to solve a problem such as this in say, the workforce that is what I would do, form a committee to discuss the possible solutions to the problem and to come up with a code of conduct. Prehaps we should start looking at something such as that?
Something like "These are informal guidlines which the community as a whole has decided are best for making a friendly and interesting posting environment accessable and approachable to all".
Then stuff like "be respectful", "be polite", "Do not take disagreement personally", "If you are a better speller than someone else good for you, we don't need to hear you point that out to everyone"?
