OK, so I haven't seen any threads based on the show, so I had to ask: Has anyone seen it? If you have, do you like it?

Without going into any spoilers, I have to say that I love the show. Since Raimi wrote and directed the first episode, it has managed (so far) to hold onto everything that made Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness so much fun. Plus, how can you go wrong with Bruce Campbell?

On a less fanboy note, I do like how they have introduced several characters as independent personages in their own rights. Hell, one major character came into the whole mess separately from the Ash character and she's holding up well as an individual in her own right. I am concerned that things may slide in future episodes and that the rest of the cast ends up becoming overshadowed by Bruce. With an over-the-top character like Ash, it seems a distinct possibility and I hope they manage to keep the writing away from such developments.

I must say I'm thoroughly enjoying the show. I'm a fan of Sam Raimi, enjoying most of his films particularly the Spiderman trilogy and of course, Evil Dead 1 & 2. Haven't watched the reboot/retread yet tho. I especially love it when Raimi gets together with his friends/inner circle, with Campbell, his brothers, Tapert and "alumnus" from Hercules/Xena.

First, it's great to have Campbell back playing Ash. The character's trademark brash attitude, irreverant, somewhat narcisistic but great fun to watch. He delivers lines perfectly for maximum comedy value. The two sidekicks are cool, and bring a lot to the show too. They are comic relief, romantic subplot, storytelling drive and problem solvers. Pablo in particular is a great mix of dumb as bricks, resolute and an Ash fanboy that makes him very fun to watch. Kelly is an interesting character too, bringing the feminine voice and a voice of reason while kicking Deadite butt and swearing.

Seeing Lucy Lawless is just fantastic. She's great to watch in anything and I love seeing her in another Raimi production. It will be interesting to see what her character's motives are since it's nicely ambiguous right now. I *suspect* she'll be an antagonist, but might just be a catalyst of some sort for drama down the line. Either way, she's great and more of her is better. The cop, I'm not decided on. So far she's just been an annoying drone throughout, tho there was a significany development with her in the most recent episode, so we'll see what comes of it. She's not particularly interesting right now and serving no real purpose in the story.

Overall, it's a very fun show to watch. It has the right mix of comedy, dark comedy, drama, violence, gore and action. It's great to see Ash fighting Deadites again and I like the current day setting. I love all the history it's kept from the Evil Dead films and hope they make more seasons. I don't know if this show is a replacement for the movie that was supposed to bring the Ash and Reboot Evil Deads together, additional to it or a test to see if there's interest.

Well, the short answer is that, yes, I have seen it and, yes, I do like it. If you like Evil Dead stuff, if you like Bruce Campbell's acting, and you like things to go splorch with a decent one-liner, go watch it.

This show just begs to be binge-watched. It's only 30 mins an episode, not a full hour like pretty much every other major satellite dramatic series. I'm curious about Lucy's character as well. She's obviously not quite human, perhaps an Evil Dead take on Angela from Spawn - an angel made strictly for hunting, functionally immortal, etc etc. And being on Starz, Raimi's free to dispense with the censors he was always tiptoeing around on Xena. This means blood, more blood, dat ass, and more blood! Gallons of the stuff. I do love the fun ways they find to kill deadites in this show, though for my money, a pocketknife spring-loaded into the gauntlet would be far more useful than a flathead screwdriver. And Pablo may have found his weapon...weapon of choice.

Ahem...

I just don't see how Ash's Evil Dead could ever reconcile with the characters from the recent reboot horror flick. It was played much too seriously to mix well with the cornfest that is this show and its preceding movies. I'd be happy if they're kept as separate entities.

I have to agree. With each episode so short, and the timing the way it is, it really feels like a serialized movie to me. Just one with week long commercial breaks. :p

I do like that they are developing the characters, though. After watching tonight's episode, I feel like they are starting to flesh out the police woman's persona and character. I hope the writers don't drop the ball (or severed head) on this one.

Also, having watched a couple of the interviews, it seems that they only got the rights to use the material from the second film. Apparently each movie was made by a different film studio and only the makers of Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn signed onto the project. So that is why Ash was working at the ValueStop instead of S-Mart. Pity that.

Well, after having watched this week's installment, I have to say that I have been thoroughly blindsided by the direction the plot took. I probably shouldn't have been, but I am and I really didn't see it coming.

With a clone Ash and the death of a major character AND the statement that there's only one episode left, I was more than a little shocked. I'm fairly saddened by the death of the cop, they really seemed like they were going to develop here personality and character more, and now she's been run over by the plot death cart. Damn.

With the one episode left, and things sitting where they are in the plot, I'm a little concerned that the next episode will be heavily rushed in order to tie things up properly. Or perhaps, I just missed it and they'll be having a second season kicking off with a good cliffhanger.

EDIT: As a small note, I do not consider this to be bumping the thread so much as trying to continue talking about the show. If my perception on this matter is not shared with the mods, I apologize.

I didn't see that death, and yet I kind of did.

wonder if it's going to be a fake out or not.

With this series, it could go either way.

Also: For some nearing her 50s...L.L. still has a pretty good body.
