Did you never flirt with the really cute new 23 year old teacher when you were in grade 12? Also how much fun did you have at your prom/end of school dance/party. Also Do you have a lot of friends now? especially ones with funny anecdotes about embarrasing/charecter forming things that happened to you whilst growing up?

Are you religious?
I assume these are things I missed out on supposedly. Never flirted with a teacher, reminds me of a joke though.
guyA Hey man whats wrong?
GuyB I have a problem.... I had sex with the teacher last night.
Guy A Awesome, your the man! which one?!
Guy B. I'm homeschooled.......
Something like that anyways.

Yes as stated in the previous postage I do have quite a few friends. Homeschool!= homebound
Didn't enjoy my end of highschool "prom" but had a bit of fun at the ladyfriends prom :)

I obviously didn't explain enough. I'm going to guess that the classes you took were the set track of classes, I kind of doubt your parents taught you robotics, graphic arts, sculpture, metalworking, jewelry making, any type of auto, any kind of lab science with more than basic chemicals, a foods class that actually is supposed to introduce you to the nuances of the foods industry, Mandarin Chinese, aerospace engineering, a class where you spend time working in a hospital (that's the interview one), sign language, psychology, sociology, naval science, business law, collage accounting, or collage marketing. all of those classes are available at my high school as electives and most have varying levels of difficulty. I'm asking if you would have wanted to go into any class like those. Once again I don't know the schools in your area and they could all be gang infested dumps but since I don't I have to assume that they offer at least some of these courses.
O okay gotcha, yes actually HS student can take classes at local schools or colleges. At the local community college you get alot of students taking foreign languages or extra science classes. Plus as a HS student your usually associated with a HS group that offers a bunch of extra stuff. I personally spent 2 years taking sign language (not so hot at it now though lol) So yes pretty much anything available to a regular student is available to a HS student. As a HS student your not limited to the house, there are lots of options available if you have extra interest. Be it at the local college or with your HS group.
EDIT: I forgot music, most HS groups have a huge music interest with professional teachers and the like. I did classical piano for 4 years.
EDIT: not really related to HS but since Dads/uncle/and granddad are pilots I also did a fair bit of flying both rec and aerobatic in this little puppy(except it was a 3 blade prop instead of 2.

What do you or what did your parents find so wrong with public school that they couldn't send you there?

I think homeschooling can be a massive positive for a person who is going onto a career in purely intelectual pursuits. But some people aren't like that and not giving the kid a chance to develop their own personality is a bit selfish on the parents part.

Yes you may want your kid to be a brain surgeon but maybe he wants to play drums in a pub band. If a person is happy with their life what is wrong with that?. Not giving a person a chance to mingle with others and have their opinions shaped by others ideas is a very simple form of brainwashing.

Before you go flaming me. Brainwashing involves telling people only what you want them to know and excluding any information that contrdicts your opinions.

Also there is nothing more life affirming than simply living life. Someday you may meet someone who just rocks your world by pure coincidence, That will not happen if you spend all your time at home with your mum. I don't think homeschooled kids are social misfits but I do think they have missed out on a big part of life that they will never get to experience. protecting your kids from all the bad things in the world only sets them up for unhappiness.

Well being deeply religious they didn't want me to be exposed to non christian beliefs. Plus drugs sex and rock and roll so to speak :)
I had the option to go to public school in high school, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
School till 11 then ski(if dad was home) or play around the yard on my old dirtbike.
Basically in high school for me it was just a matter of convenience. We could go camping or on vacation in the winter without waiting for breaks.
For parents =religious
For me=convenient/more fun/I could work more

I'm having some trouble understanding your timing for school, are you saying you have school until 11 AM? At what time do you start? And how many days a year do you have school?

I used to know this girl who was homeschooled, she was a slut. It was pretty awesome. Are you a slut?

But seriously, how'd it go with the ladies?

But seriously seriously, she's a slut.

Most HS isn't really brainwashing, people think it's parents teaching their kids what they want, but like I said most of the material is the same as the ones in public school(except with a bible history class thrown in:). EDIT Also most high school HS students teach themselves, parents just hand out then grade test.

I know we prolly disagree on this but I personally don't feel I missed out on anything, I was sheltered from the world yes but I was also exposed to it a lot be it though athletics or hanging with my friends every night when they got out. Like I said most HS students do things outside of the home.

I started usually around 8 or 9 and finished at 11 or 12.

Legally your supposed to have 4 hours of schooling a day. But me personally I could read, understand, learn the material in a much shorter time. Imagine school without lecture and how much shorter it would be, if you had a question you asked but it was mainly read lesson, do the homework on it, then take a quiz or test every few days/weeks
EDIT: Your supposed to have 180 days of school. We usually started a week or two after public school went back, and got done in april because I finished stuff early.

I personally am not a slut, I like to think I do okay with the ladies :) Didn't really start "dating" till I was 17 because most girls in highschool annoyed me ha.
I wouldn't be surprised she was a slut
there are generally two types who homeschool
1. Those that do it for religious/educational reasons
2. those that do it cause they hate/can't do/dropped out/kicked out of regular school

EDIT: If your looking for slutty girls in strange places, try preachers daughters. If they look like an amish person prolly not slutty, but if they look normal they are prolly rebellious slutty girls :)

Does this mean I get to make a thread about my educational experience?

Anyway, what makes you any different from anyone else? I don't see how it could do anything but mold you to your parents' will.

I'd like to restate how many days a year? were you being home-schooled every day but Sunday? I understand how you could self teach yourself, hell I could do it if I had access to my dad to answer any questions I had but I refuse to believe that you could pass high school in 3 years while only being taught 2-4 hours a day without being taught almost every day of the year.

Also just curious as to your denomination.

You can make a thread if you wish, I just figure HS is a bit different than the norm :)
I don't think I quite get the question, if your literally asking what makes me different from other people o boy where to start. I personally don't see HS kids as molded to their parents will, but it's understandable as it seems like that definitely would be the case. I'm not too much like my parents other than having some of the same personality quirks and most of the HS kids I know are usually quite individualistic with their own goals and ideals. Granted there are prolly parents out there who push themselves on their kids but not in my experience.

I was homeschooled for all of Middle and High School. I had (and have) a social life and social skills. See, the thing is, when you're not spending 6+ hours a day in classes you hate with teachers you hate, you can actually go out and experience real life. That's why I despise all the homeschooler steriotypes-it's like people assume High School= real life. A lot of people who do really well in a school environment fail at life, and vice-versa. There's a big difference between life and social skills, and what goes on in school.

I wouldn't say I'm any smarter than any regular-schoolers, but I certainly enjoyed my classes more.

And you can't say that HS is "parent brainwashing" any more than you can say regular school is "teacher brainwashing." EVERYONE on Earth brings their own biases into their teaching. There is not a person capable of teaching a completely objective class (unless that class is Math, but I even wonder about that.) Besides, a lot of the material (as stated by others) is the same stuff. What, you think we learn from "Creation Math" textbooks or something? Reading is reading, math is math, etc.

My opinion is that people should take whatever kind of school suits them. The public schools were I live are extremely inefficient and very wasteful of the (TONS) of tax dollars we throw their way, and there's no shortage of evidence pointing to the fact that public schools in America kind of suck, but I'm not against conventional schools. Whatever worked (works) for you.

I think I edited in an earlier post.
You would be surprised what you can get done in 3-4 hours a day of straight studying. I just went to school monday though friday like most people, and started the school year about 1-2 weeks after public school started and finished in april.
You get stuff done earlier because, imagine your doing a chapter in chemistry and you understand it fully you can go ahead and take the test and skip ahead instead of taking the scheduled 2-3 days or whatnot. Same with history math etc. I actually finished with 6 credits over what was required to graduate :) in three years lol.

I'm independent baptist (the Bible thumpers)

Now that I think about it, she was actually cyber schooled. I guess it's pretty much the same ballgame, but you probably have normal parents who can help you out. Her's were lunatics. She was fucking crazy, like socially fucked up.. but I put up with it cause she was bangin.. I got some pictures around here somewhere. Good times.

Just the thought of a slutty amish girl makes me cringe. I don't have much trouble finding sluts around here. ;)

Did you have any trouble getting into a college without having a normal high school diploma? I assume you went to a local school to take SATs then?

My diploma looks like yours(and carries the same weight) Yes I did have to take the SATs and ACTS at the closest school.
Actually I had no problem getting into college as my ACT was pretty high(well a lot higher than the local avg).

sorry I meant your high school district. that's why I thought it would be imposing, I can go to collage anywhere but your high school district reveals your general area.
