I couldn't find this thread anywhere else, which is odd.

I loved in Oblivion how I could break into someone's house, kill them and their family, and steal all of their shit. In fact, I loved this so much I beat all of the assassination quests in a day, and before I beat Oblivion I had murdered half of the citadel Jack the Ripper style. Now, I have been looking for another game that allows you to do this. I couldn't in Fallout 3 because my Karma went down while in Oblivion my reputation never suffered if I didn't get caught. Also, people would magically become hostile even if the person was alone, by himself, and I used melee weapons. I know of games such as hit man, and assassin's creed, but I have heard they are linear in the stealth aspect, which is a big turnoff for me. Any non linear suggestions (old or upcoming) that would deliver non linear assassination fun?

I can't speak for Assassin's Creed having not played it. But the Hitman games are rarely all that linear when it comes to the individual maps, that is, you get put in a map and need to complete objectives usually involving killing people. Though the game will give you hints and maybe provide you a few good routes, how you accomplish the job is up to you, and there are a variety of ways you can do so on each map.

For example, in Hitman: Silent Assassin your first mission is to kill a mob boss. You can take a variety of ways to do this: Kill the man delivering flowers, steal his clothes and deliver the flowers yourself, the guards will let you in the gate allowing you into the mansion proper. Or, you could go round the side and kill the food delivery guy and get in through the kitchens. Or, obtain a rifle somehow and simply shoot the mob boss when he comes out to his balcony to practice his swing.

Granted, any way you choose will always end with your mark dead, but you've usually got plenty of ways to accomplish that goal.

Technically speaking, Assassin's Creed is an open world environment. You get some missions in bulk, and can do them in whatever order you please. It gets more linear at the end, but for most of the game you can do pretty much as you please.

If you liked Oblivion, check out Morrowind, the third in the Elder Scrolls series. Instead of the Dark Brotherhood, there's the Morag Tong guild, which is an assassination guild. Plus the Thief's Guild. I personally preferred Morrowind to Oblivion as a whole.

Also check out Thief, which basically set the stage for stealth-based gameplay. It's a brilliant game, if a bit dated at this point.

Um, I played Assassin's Creed, I liked it, you can go around and shank people. Although it is a very repetitive, you shouldn't be bothered too much.

You, my friend, have a serious problem, which should probably be the subject of your next meeting with your psychiatrist.

Assassins Creed was a FAIL when it came to killing innocent civilians. Ubisoft decided to ruin a potentially game-making aspect by taking away health when you did. WHY!?! WHY I SAY!!!

My answer would be GTA4. Where killing people is fun and getting away with it is just too damn easy.

I found it fun in Saints Row 2 to get a Helicopter, land it on a low building in a heavily populated area... And going crazy with my sniper rifle.

I know exactly how you feel. In fact, I can relate to you in so many ways it might seem creepy.
I love jacking peoples stuff over their dead body in a game, it always appealed to me.

Hitman is halfway linear, In the sense of, you have a goal, get to it in whatever way possible.

Now, GTA is always a very good option, but it lacks the "jacking all their stuff" aspect. Still very fun.

Fable 2 can work, but it's a stretch. It has that open world aspect, but it's not as in depth. still a good game.

Get the expansions to oblivion, there's even more armed robbery as you like it. If you already have them and still aren't satisfied, you can get...

Morrowind. Like Oblivion, but older, and it's not as in depth.

Prototype, this looks to be extremely promising as you can fricking absorb people you kill.

That's the best I can do, so have at it if you love pillaging as much as I do.

Yeah, I would actually pick people up in Hulk ultimate destruction, run to the top of a sky scraper, and flick them off the edge. I'm awful, but I am SOOOO looking forward to grabbing a random person, pulling them off into a dark alley, and consuming them.

See looking back on it I agree with people about the repetitiveness, but when I first played through it, I didn't notice at all, like completely oblivious. And I did everything, looked from all the towers, picked all the pockets, eavesdropped on all the loud people, etc.

Assassin's creed was too focused on action and combat to really feel like an assassin game. For an assassin he sure get's caught alot.

Try Hitman Bloodmoney :)

Agent 47 has a special place in my heart.

Hitman Blood Money Features

Large and Open Free Roaming sandbox levels

Kill your targets in a creative variety of ways

Not linear, do things your way, kill things you way

Use Stealth or Kill Them All, it's your choice

I would try to find a mod for Oblivion that extends those missions a bit, or offers new ones. A ton of mods create new towns and other places to visit, so you might try and download a couple of those. Unless you're using a console, in which case, sorry chief.

I've played Assassin's Creed and I've got to say, you can do some pretty wicked pins to random civilians, which is especially nice since so many are really annoying, but as mentioned earlier, it does heavily penalize you. I think if you dug the Oblivion stealth aspect, you'd probably want to avoid Assassin's Creed.

Manhunt gave me an erection...
Lining up a bunch of Doctor Kleiner in Garry's Mod and mowing them down with an array of horrifically violent machine guns and saws gave me an erection. Don't sweat the violence-induced boner.

Any Hitman Game, seriously. Be as sinister as you want, kill them how you want, do what you want.

But Assassin's Creed is not the type of game he's asking for. He already said he liked the Dark Brotherhood missions in Oblivion. Those missions are more like Hitman missions than Assassin's Creed missions.

Assassin's creed is more of an action exploration game, not really so much an assassination game. For what it was, Assassin's Creed was great, but if you want to put on a masquerade and kill some unsuspecting fool in cold blood you can't go wrong with Hitman Blood Money.
