so basically how does this game play on PC. is it clunky and makes you wish for a playstion controller?

how good a pc do you reckon is needed for ac3?

the reason im asking is i really prefer my PC over my Playstation, as other people use the TV and my dog has ruined the lounge. but 3rd person games seem easier to control on playstation with joysticks.

So which do you recommend. pc or playstation when it comes to AC3?

The controls are a bit awkward. You have to hold down three buttons to sprint and it occasionally expects you to use the mouse like an analogue stick, especially in combat.

Once you adjust, it works alright though.

Yes I recommend it on console because the ports are just anus.
Loads and menus are horrific, they can't figure out key prompts so they just show icons instead so you haveto go into the key binding menu to find out what the icons fucking mean, and when you rebind shit some actions stop working, also found an absurd amount of lag spikes in the strangest of places (on the 2D map most notably).

Plus there is that whole always online/login thing Ubisoft can't up make its mind with.

I played Ass Creed 1 through absolutely fine with a keyboard and mouse, I tried using a controller but for anything where you move a camera around a 3d space I can't stand analogue sticks.

It's just harder to remember what buttons do what at the start as the interface is in a sort of up down left right thing that the controllers buttons have, whereas you use E, Space, Shift and click I think on a keyboard.

So controls are harder to remember, but work fine and it runs well, had no laggy experiences and everything that should use a mouse does (all menus etc).

Haven't played any others apart from the first however.

I played it on PC. It handles like prince of persia on PC. Except there aren't any unsolvable puzzles.

By which I mean, it handles fine. However it handles much better with a controller.

I've played all the games up to and including Brotherhood on PC using mouse and keyboard - I've got a gamepad, but M&K is what I'm used to and I actually found it a lot easier. The control system definitely takes some getting used to but with a bit of practice it all just becomes muscle memory.

As for how good a PC you need, Brotherhood worked just fine on my XP SP3 machine that's a few years old now - it didn't seem to stress the machine out any more than, say, any of the Mass Effect games or the recent Need For Speed titles.

The original handles fine on PC. AC2 has some godawful mouse acceleration, and Brotherhood and Revelations have it to an extent, although it's at least been eased up a little.

I have it on PC, graphics wise, it looks exactly the same as it is on a console (maybe smoother, but I didn't notice), controls wise, I used a 360 pad, but instead of telling you "press X" it will show you a picture of a fist for attacking, which can get annoying really quickly in QTEs (Although I think its fixed for Brotherhood(?) but its fixed for Revelations). In terms of what game you should get, AC2 IMO is the best one, Brotherhood and Revelations just feel like expansion packs with added multiplayer (That no one really plays on PC) and AC1 I just got bored playing.

Playing AC2 on the PC right now. Outside of some stupidity in the tutorial ("Press legs to move legs... Wut?") it's just fine.

Now that is weird.

I have never played Assassin's Creed since I played the very first title for long enough to witness my character 'melt into a crowd' simply by putting his hands together. Such bs.

He's including WASD to exaggerate. High profile+Legs+Movement Controls(Right click+Space bar+WASD) same as the console versions. Hardly onerous or uncomfortable to pull off unless you have some serious coordination issues.

I've played AC 1,2 and revelations on the PC and they all seem to run alright. I do recommend using an x-box controller if you buy it on PC though because the controls are a bit awkward with the keyboard.

I assume they make it work just fine; it's a popular game.

That said, perhaps hitting sprint would have fluidly switched your character to 'high profile' without the need of that third button? *shrug*
Normally space makes you walk faster but still without drawing attention. Since you tend to use that for closing with targets... well suddenly breaking out into a sprint because you let go of a button would be a Bad Thing?.

I just finished AC: Brotherhood on my PC. I do have a pretty good gaming system that I built not too long ago, so at least go with the recommended settings and requirements. I used a wireless 360 controller to play it too, since it is just the type of game I like to have a controller for. As always, PC gaming is just great and I recommend it.

Seriously, if you're even a little bit used to playing games with mouse and keyboard, then by the end of the tutorial you'll be doing just fine with AC. Get a gamepad for the PC if that's what you'd prefer, but don't think that it's necessary to make the games work or anything. Mouse and keyboard works just fine.

Get a 360 controller. It also works for tons of other games on the PC that just make more sense with dual analog sticks. It's usually the first controller developers target if they include any controller support.

The wireless version is okay, but the wired version is cheaper, lighter, and doesn't need batteries charged. And it's always nice to have fewer wireless signals buzzing around.

I prefer it on pc. Then again I have always been a pc player. I can understand why some people say its annoying to have to hold down 3 buttons etc. To me it comes natural. Hell, I can bend my hand in the most obscure positions you wouldn't think possible. For me, I can never get used to the controls on xbox/ps3. What you should be asking yourself is on which medium do you play the most? What comes most natural and that is your answer.

It plays pretty well with a keyboard. You can plug in a 360 controller if you prefer, it plays fine either way.

Personally I prefer the controller for these types of games. But I played through my first time with the keyboard.

It s not a game where you benefit hugely from mouse + keyboard like with most shooters, but it isn't fundamentally held back by the standard pc interface.

The free running in all versions is so streamlined and simplified there is nothing to it. The difference between Gamepad or m&kb is more or less precision difference between movement and camera direction.

On consoles the right thumb stick doesn't give the most precise camera pointing (compared to mouse) but this is compensated by subtle diagonal adjustments with the left thumb stick. On PC you peg the W key to go dead straight forward and with mouse aim precisely where you want to go.

The problem you might find is the WASD controls, just get used to moving forward with your middle finger (of left hand) holding down W key and then ring and index fingers respectively pressing A and D keys for strafing and diagonal. Unless you are sed to this it WILL be very weird as it doesn't match up with any established muscle memory and you may be tempted to call it inherently inferior... But you'd be wrong.

Having three fingers DEDICATED to movement allows amazing responsiveness, even though in only 8 directions (including diagonals). You can very easilly perform sharp zig-zag motions by holding down W and alternating A and D presses. Most games with a sprint only allow you to sprint 45-degrees off from you line of sight, one degree out and the sprint is broken. With a thumb stick it is hard to hit perfect diagonals but easy with WASD movement, just with holding W then hold A or D.

For fighting in assassins creed, the camera locks on target so mouse or thumbstick are irrelevant. WASD does as well as thumb stick as its all just circling target and advancing/retreating.

[small](I never liked assassins creed though it could mainly be down to my prejudice of playing the Hitman series, I expected a bit more subterfuge and a little less one to one fighting. I uninstalled my copy of the game when I bum rushed a a target surrounded by guards expecting to have to make a quick exit after killing him... Only after stabbing him the world around my character and the target dissolved and they held a 5 minute nonsense conversation... Which would've impossible, the guards should have turned me into a sword shishkebab if I was still around seconds after I'd stabbed my target. The whole point of the concealable blade is that I could just shank him in the kidneys then calmly flee before anyone noticed.

It just not the game for me, not on any platform.)[/small]
