Im not sure, I think the whole concept of generic white made Altair nonchalant, thus easier to stab people in crowds. A neon pink dude in 16th (17th?) century Italy does not seem very... well... nonchalant...

But i'm gonna see what shade of purple they use for his outfit. If i like it, i'm goin' with that. If not, well...

I'd be more impressed with short lived stains of blood. Otherwise yeah, I'm going orange. Screw pink, no matter how manly it is. I demand orange! Camouflage gets you killed, orange lets the other assassins see you.

on a more serious note, it seems there's a lot of quirks in AC2. It's enough to make me wonder if they're compensating for something

I'm thinking its an attempt to break up the monotany of the first one by throwing in some extras to do while on a mission or between missions.

It's been said. In both Assassin's Creeds' the protagonist has just stuck out like mad. I am really looking forward to the game, more games should be set in the Renaissance and cramped Italian cities. Dyes sound good, give me black, grey or deep red. Blend in somewhat. Also it seems berets are everywhere and he is not a bloody dark age peasant so why the hood? A hooded murderer is a bit stereotypical.

A gold blinged-out courtier is my seggestion. Yellow is confidence. Anything beautiful that makes sense with the period.
