Assassin's Creed 2 Sets Record for "Most Covers"

I am assuming the other well-known game would be Modern Warfare 2... I hear it was kinda popular last year...

Yeah, I thought that'd be a no brainer considering the ridiculous amount of money that was spent advertising it.

Not to mention it is the most bought game... ever.

I really think it's the first time anyone has counted. I'm guessing games like Tomb Raider or Tomb Raider II got tons of cover when they came out. Maybe there's more gaming magazines now in which to feature as a cover? Is this result corrected for that?

am I seriously the only who isn't all that surprised?? ACII is a great game, you're just mad because of the DRM. sucks for you guys, but having shitty DRM doesn't make the game worse and I don't think those magazines judge it by that.
but more importantly, ACII just looks so damn nice. almost any screenshot can be used as a magazine cover, I can't say the same for most other games (including mw2).

What I'd really like to know, though, is exactly how Assassin's Creed 2 came by the title. Was it an epic struggle with a glorious past champion, eked out by Ezio with a last-minute cover on the Singaporean edition of OXM? Or was it just the first time anyone bothered to count? Curiosity got the better of me, so I asked; I'll let you know if I actually get an answer.

I'm guessing it's the first time anyone bothered to count. And no old title is gonna get it, because there's much greater number of publications on which to have a cover now than, say, 10 years ago.

And they have more covers than any other games now because ... well, let's just say some publishers are better at strong-arm marketing tactics than others. Couple that with very attractive girl as marketing contact for said game and no one else stood a chance.

Don?t developers just pay to get on covers these days? I would rather hear about records for games that have achieved things more worthwhile than having the biggest marketing budget.

As great as AC2 was, Ubisoft should probably focus on finding a way to win back their fucked over PC fanbase instead of compiling lists of how many magazines they paid to feature Ezio on the cover.

It really is a beautiful game, I actually went to wikipedia while I was playing to see pictures of some of the places in the game, and the artist had it right on the money. There really nothing more spectacular in the art world than renaissance Italy.
