Now I'm not trying to start anything here, but why is there so much hype about Assassin's Creed 2? I played the first one and thought it was so-so. I met just as many people who agreed with me as there were dissenters. By definition I would say that makes it an average game. So not to Cause trouble, but why would the sequel to a game with mixed reviews become so widely advertised and talked about?

It's just my thoughts, but it looks to me that they have actually listened to the criticisms levelled at the original game and gone to some efforts to address them. There's nothing wrong with improving upon an imperfect formula

Anyway, although the first game did have it's flaws, I still thought it was a fine game. Plus, maybe people are just keen on an original game setting these days. At least I don't know of many other games in Reneissance-era Venice...

The first game was brilliant. They're expanding the game massively. Ergo for me it's going to be excellent. :)

The premise for the first game was very good, as was the majority of the gameplay. The main thing that ruined it was the repetition, and if they have fixed that and added a whole lot of new gameplay mechanics as well... we could have a winner folks.

They made missions less repetative, which was the main complaint against the first one. They've also added alot of other things.

I dunno how many people you based your 'average' game on but I'd say it wasn't enough to get the whole picture. The big problem was the repetitiveness as already stated and it was a big or small enough problem for some reviews to score it from anywhere from amazing to pretty bad.

Also the potential for something completely kick-ass is there and AC2 is claiming to have it. I for one think that it's got a shot at it.

As previously stated, they fixed a lot of the flaws and made everything a lot better. Still not sure how much the combat was improved, as to if there is a one hit win button again, they've been pretty vague on the exact mechanics of the combat, but the rest sounds fantastic. Even for all of it's flaws , i still enjoyed the first Assassin's Creed, and I can't wait for the second one. If you didn't like the first one, atleast play a demo or rent it or something, because this one appears to be ALOT better.

Because he has a hidden blade that he uses to kill people...

...and they took out the repetitiveness of it too and otherwise made it more awesome...

They added awesome to it, instead of "do this a billion times", which is distinctly not awesome.

And a game with awesome in it is a game I want to buy.

Well to me Assassin's creed wasn't that great, but I think AC2 will be amazing, because the first one felt like a game that warranted a sequel. A bit like a beta or a rough build of an engine. The running mechanics are great, the fighting mechanics work well, though counter has no balance (hopefully they fix that) the graphics, animations, character actions, and AI is good, though a bit predictable. Really the only problem of it is lack of variety that leads to repetition, and since they already had the build all their effort went in to fixing that problem.

From what I've heard there's like 30 different weapons they've added, along with added more variety to hand to hand and hidden blade combos and more hidden blade add ons like the needle and the gun, giving more variety in killing methods

There's now 3 types of standard enemies, one that's good against combat, one that's hard to outrun, and one that's hard to hide from, meaning that combat not only gets more variety, it makes it so you actually have to asses the situation not just run in mashing RT and x.

You can now pickpocket anyone and there's a currency system to buy upgrades and unlockables, which gives you something to work for.

There's much more variety in side missions, which gives you a lot more to do.

Assassin's Creed's only two (major) flaws in my opinion where that it was repetitive and combat was too easy, and now that it appears like they've assessed and fixed them. I'm expecting AC2 to be one of the best games ever. Granted it probably won't be, but if they do everything they say they've been doing and do it right, it could be well within the realms of possibility.

Plus, AC is something original, and I give a lot of credit to that. I would much rather play something that feels fresh than some generic War or Zombie FPS.

A better combat system, a nitfy little story and alot of height. Hopefully it includes these, and hopefully it will pass expectations. The first one was alright.

I loved the first one, even though it was a bit repetitive, and I have seen just about everything that I can on this game and have not seen a single thing that makes me think it will not be better in every way than it's predecessor. Which is why I know that there are only 20 days left until it is out. And that's 20 days too long...

Honestly I've been wondering the same thing. I borrowed the first game from a friend, and got so mind-numbingly bored that I just could not figure out why it had so much hype back then.

And now there are alot of people excited for a sequel. I guess we (gamers) as a community just don't learn.

That said, I'd like to be pleasantly surprised,I'm just not holding my breath. Nor do I feel any anticipation at all for this game.

They say that they've removed the repetitiveness of the first game, which was it's biggest flaw, be it in missions, exploration or combat, and replaced it with new and interesting mechanics.

Because it looks like they're actually making the game they wanted to make the first time around. Assassin's Creed had a lot of potential, but the only real flaw there was that they didn't know how to structure the game. The open-worldness came back to bite it in the ass when they decided to only put in 10 scripted assassinations, while making all the missions that led up to that absolutely identical. They look like they're focusing on what was awesome in the first game and making it more accessible - more access to rooftops, more sneaking around and assassinating guards, more targets and more creative ways of being able to fight and kill people.

In other words, Assassin's Creed had a great concept with rather mediocre execution, and I think, as far as Assassin's Creed 2, they're focusing on making the entire game experience fun and exciting.
