The rights were conveniently passed up [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/87255-Why-Activision-Ditched-Riddick] by Activision-Blizzard's CEO Bobby Kotick, who didn't consider the game to "have the potential to be exploited every year on every platform with clear sequel potential" and "become a $100 million dollar" franchise.
Why does a game need "clear sequel potential"? You can't just make a SINGLE game and have it be hugely popular? *sigh*

how many reasons do we need to be given before we give him the king douche award for 2009?

he sadly doesn't see the potential of games and just wants to make money and all the versions of guitar hero are proof of that. the sad part is they will actually lose money because no one wants to buy the next version of guitar hero

sadly besides prototype they haven't had any great games in the past few years and i think that trend will continue

Considering the fuckups they've made regarding the release of Ghostbusters here in Europe, I don't think their publishing strategy was that right either.

...Almost tricked by a necro. ALMOST.

I hope that whoever has the license keeps it alive, provided they keep giving us Ghostbusting fun.

Better movies than this have been slaughtered in the past by video game companies, but this particular franchise stands a better chance than most of surviving the conversion without feeling forced or inconsistent with the spirit of the movies.
I'm sorry but what better movies? Most of the movies I've seen made into video games weren't that great to begin with. Although Jurrasic Park and Indiana Jones and Star Wars were great movies, I don't consider them better, and considering the differences in content/storyline, I'm not sure they should even be compared. But that's neither here nor there and I'll drop it.

My beef is with them trying to turn what I felt was an awesome movie-based game, perhaps the best one I've ever played (I own the PS2 version), and milking it for many sequals which will invariably become very poor as time goes on. What made this particular game great was that they got everyone who was in the old movies to come back and do voices and even had Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd (sorry if I spelt that wrong) working on the storyline and dialogue.

I know I said to myself I'd love to see another one of these the whole time I was playing it, but I didn't expect they were gonna go and start churning out sequals left and right simply to try and prove someone else wrong. Now, if they DO somehow manage to make every game work and be epic like this, that'd be wonderful and win. But I'm not holding my breathe.

EDIT: Augh crap, this IS a necro. Damn it, I shoulda scrolled down further and read more comments. Oh well. :p
