ATI display driver problems.

I have been having trouble with my graphics card lately, a message pops up upon boot to desktop saying "ATI display driver is not currently running". I have checked my system info and I am using my integrated Nvida 7025 graphics instead of my AMD Redeon 6700 series. I have googled the problem and I have not found any solution I understand yet, because of this I cannot run any games as my graphics card is not being detected.

any help on how to fix this would be very much appreciated.

specs:

AMD Redeon 6700 series
8GB RAM
AMD FX-4170 Quad core processor
64 bit windows 7.

The first thing is to plug your monitor into the graphics card rather than the backplane. Also, go into the bios and turn off the integrated graphics. To enter the bios, hit either the delete key or f2 when you turn on the machine.

Seconding the above - plugging the monitor into the motherboard instead of the GPU is a mistake I've made before.

One further suggestion though - before disabling integrated graphics in the BIOS, you can also try removing the graphics card drivers in windows device manager, then reinstalling them - either from disk or from online.
You can also try removing the Catalyst Control Centre program and reinstalling it.

Catalyst re-install - no change, caused steam to be un-bootable, had to restore system to fix.

if it might help, upon the re-instal of the catalyst control it said the instal was completed with errors. Also it had a yellow question mark upon the instal window.

Any further help would be appreciated, also is there any way to check if my GPU has just died? It was fine yesterday.

You could try in device manager uninstalling the card rather than the driver and then scanning for hardware changes. if that doesn't work, take the cover off, check the card is seated properly and if the fan starts when when you turn on the machine.

As for what to try next, albino boo beat me to it. Just be careful not to prod the card when it's on.

and see if it finds the integrated graphics or your graphics card.

Uh...are you absolutely sure you have your monitor cable plugged into the GPU socket and not into the onboard graphics? There should be two areas on the back of your computer box that have video output ports - one in the top section surrounded by USB slots, mouse/keyboard ports, sound outputs, an Ethernet port and a few other things, while the one it should be plugged into is further down on its own row. I can't think of any scenario other than using the wrong socket that could lead to this issue. It doesn't make sense for it to be using the onboard graphics when outputting from the dedicated GPU.
