What is the difference between violence and sex in movies, and violence and sex in a video game. It appears that Atkinson in under the impression that video games aren't played by adults. This is terrible, totalitarianism here we come! On a slightly lighter note, I'm getting that game the second it comes out, as I live in the UK. Whoo!

I find it interesting that the sentence makes the same ammount of sense if you remove the word "gamers" and replace it with "attourney-genrals". More so if you remember that it's not just a "small number of very zealous attourney-generals". It is, in fact, "one very zealous attourney-general trying to impose his will on society."

Huh. Interesting.

Also, yeah, sometimes you just gotta impale shit.
to be fair he's not the only attourney-genral who dose not want a R rating he's just the only one saying it the others feel that as long as he say's it they don't have to

Atkinson is right, you don't need to impale people (all the time), not when there are other, more gruesome deaths to make them suffer.

"The answer to that is: yes, sometimes you do."

It's AvP. Playing it without the impaling would be as silly as.. Oh, I don't know, having zombies in L4D2 disappear before the grenades even go off.

What a moron. It's a sad world we live in that he can make other people follow his dogmatic views.

No he won't. He's just that type of guy. Annoying enough that the hate of gamers sustains him in undeath on his way to digital hell.

Ironically, that 1% or 2% may go on a rampage because you're being so stupid and you aren't letting them play the violent games they want.

Nice site; however, I'm a Brit, and as we are no longer overlords of your prison colony, I'm afraid I can't vote in your election ;).
Actually, you Brits still are. AG (attorney general, governor general, either one) is still more powerful than the PM so he could pass it if he wanted to. Has to sign off on all laws and can dissolve parliament.

And the Queen still outranks em all. Even tho Aussies voted to become a republic and passed it..

Erm, no, no they didn't: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_republic_referendum,_1999

54% voted NO to republic.

I knew I couldn't have been the only one to notice that. I thought I read it wrong at first, and had to go back a couple times to make sure. The hypocrisy in that statement is unreal.

Y'know Micheal Atkinson says a lot of things. Has anything he said ever made sense or NOT had so many loopholes you'd have thought it was a plate of spaghetti?

"impose their will on society" <- That's what humans do. The alternative is called "slavery".

"It's the public interest versus the small vested interest." <- Yes, you're the small vested interest.

"1% to 2% could go on to be motivated by these games to commit horrible acts of violence." <- Considerably more people than what this percentage represents already commit horrible acts of violence without video games. What are you doing about that?

"You don't need to be playing a game in which you impale, decapitate and dismember people." <- No, but why should we not so long as we don't actually do it? We don't need to vote either...

I hate to be rude, but this idiot has fucked over Australian Gamers for the last time. What gives him the right as ONE person, to say what the rest of Australia can and cant have? I wouldn't be surprised, nay, I encourage someone to kill him, get him out of our damn country and let the COUNTRY have what it wants, not judged by a senile old man who's idea of gaming is ping pong with a ball made of styre-foam to prevent injuries.

All in all, kudos to ABC News and reporter Adrian Raschella for delivering a decent story that doesn't try to vilify gamers. It's definitely worth a watch.
Thanks, Adrian. I just imagined Fox News doing the me report, its great that there are unbiased journalists out there.
OT: Um-hum... Screw Michael Atkinson.

.....God Atkinson is such an ass. I don't live in Australia but i can tell from everything ive heard from Yahtzee, the news, and escapist it's self, that he is a douche bag.

You Australian gamers must be suffering over their.

Edit: this is why I like America, because if out kids become blood hungry serial killers because of video games, we know that it's either the stores fault, the parents fault, or the kids fault. He's no Governor

he's more like a dictator.

Also, is this guy really stupid enough to think that videogames can actually make people ACT violent.
These pretty much sum up my thoughts. Why don't they vote him out or impeach him already. One guy controlling what people do? Sounds like a dictator to me.
