Maybe i am a bit over dramatizing, we only just finished the first season after all.

I guess after eren beat annie titan in the 2nd round, im starting to worry that it's gonna be a trend for future episodes as eren becomes more skilled and used to his form, that he will transform every time there's a problem and have power ranger style giant monster fights with other titans whilst the "cannon fodder" gets increasingly relegated to watching and commenting. I do not care about eren, but potato girl, jean and all the rest of the support cast is what makes the anime for me.

Let's see how next season goes, im worried eren titan will overshadow what i liked about the series so far, but not having read the manga it's purely hypothetical on my part. And yeh he is currently nowhere near able to challenge mikasa or levi for the title of most OP character...Am hoping that doesn't change any time soon.

Did....did you just use a Tanith Cuss word? Good to see a fellow fan of Abnett!

OT: I've been hearing a lot of Attack on Titan. Still not sure if I want to watch it at the moment. Anyone giving this the thumbs up?
Eeyup. I regularly use "Feth" as a cuss word.
Also, Attack on Titan is decent. The opening for it has also been growing on me.

Well, I read the manga,(I have not watched the anime), more for the jigsaw puzzle plot and the mystery than for the action and drama.

What I really hate is the fact that before the anime came out nobody gives a damn about the manga, but when the anime comes out, everyone loses their mind over the anime.
How do you think JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Fans feel?
Series has been running since 1986 and has a Total of 8 Parts (Part 8 still running) with some of the best story lines and intriguing characters.

Biggest problem. Only till late 2012 did Parts 1 and 2 get a damn good anime and everyone's still waiting for Araki to redo Part 3 seeing how the OVA of that was sub par and completely homophobic in terms of character redesign.

Still I know the pain. Look at Soul Eater. The Manga is fantastic. The series ended on filler. THIS IS BULLSHIT

You mean people actually watched this garbage? There are far better shows out there.
Don't mean to attack, but I would seriously like to know what you suggest. I think AoT is good but it's far from faults.
It tends to drag on a bit

Eren just being a freaking psychopath at times, mind specifically the kid scene. I mean did that scene where he just happen to find Mikasa's family's murderers and kill them without question, by himself for gosh sakes, really have to happen!

Some characters just happen to be serious titan killers compared to everybody. The fact that Mikasa just "is" god-tier is annoying.
If you have better suggestions I'd like to know since I really can't find many good animes.
A list of suggestions I made that you will almost never see on the Escapist forums. You tend to get recommended the same 12 shows here over and over.

Accel World A good series based on a futuristic video game called The Accelerated World. It's pretty stylish all round. (Spiritual sequel to Sword Art Online)
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko - If you can figure out what the hell this show is about please let me know.
.Hack//Sign - Awful animation and production values and terrible pacing but a really good look at child abuse and how they escape from a harsh reality.
Denpa Teki na Kanojo - Watch this. This show is excellent and outstanding in every way possible, an absolute must-watch in my opinion.
Eve no Jikan Gekijouban - See above.
Mardock Scramble - Also see above.
Fate/Zero - This is the Nasuverse done right. Try your best to track down the BD subs for this if you can, it's simply stunning both visually and storywise.
Kara no Kyoukai - More excellent Nasuverse stuff.
Golden Boy - No need to analyze this. It speaks for itself.
Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari - Tenchi Muyo spinoff that's set in another world as the title implies. Yeah, this is a harem but it's great when a harem lead is not afraid of his own cock, he just has better things to do. Kinda gotta watch it to understand.
Magi- The Labyrinth of Magic - Pretty cool story set in a middle ages Arabian Nights setting where magical labyrinths appear around the world full of treasures and Djinn that would choose the next king.
Mouretsu Kaizoku - Also known as Bodacious Space Pirates. Don't expect One Piece, it's a show about strong and cute female characters and politics and insurance fraud. And a whole lot of Space Ship porn on the side. The soundtrack is also absolutely lovely.
Nazo no Kanojo X - It's honestly as weird as it sounds but it's a lovely story that's one of my all time favorites.
Shiki - Slow starter but an excellent vampire horror story set in modern Japan.
Sword Art Online - Set in the world's first Full Dive MMO environment where 10, 000 players are locked into the game and will die in real life if they die in game. Excellent first cour but the second cour lacks the tension of the first. Hope to see a season two for Gun Gale Online.
The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya - Yeah, it sucks that the TV show has such an awful fanbase and the Endless Eight sucked too but this movie is an objective masterpiece. And I do not use that term lightly. Make Sure you watch at least episode 1-5 in chronological order, Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody and at least the first two and last episode of Endless Eight for maximum effect. This is a movie that actually managed to turn 5 minutes of deep introspection into one of the most tense and watchable scenes of all time.
The iDOLM@STER - Based off an extremely popular Japanese video game series where you raise a group of 13 young, unknown girls to become top idols. Slow starter but it quickly picks up pace as the girls become more popular and it's worth watching for the performance scenes alone.
The iDOLM@STER: Xenoglossia - Ignore the relations it holds to The iDOLM@STER and you have a giant robot anime that's so bad it's good. It's like watching a car crash in slow motion, it's so horrifying that you can't look away. The first episode sucks pretty bad but I couldn't stop watching after episode two.
Tasogare Otome X Amnesia - This is a pretty cool and interesting specimen. It's more or less a horror/romance story for girls but is extremely enjoyable nonetheless.

A lot of people trash on SAO for various reasons, as someone has done in a direct quote to me. I find it's either love or hate for that show, I fall on the love side mostly because it's probably the most decent MMO anime out there, even better than the .hack series. Though there certainly is a lot of missed potential, the novels, as usual, are far better than the adaption. Don't skip Accel World even if you hate SAO, it's a great standalone series.

very minor manga spoiler
he finally kills a titan sans titan form in the manga right after the female titan arc so theres hope yet but I feel you on your worries.:)

Eugh, I would watch the show, but the angst really turns off.

Also those cringeworthy lyrics(when translated to English).
Angst! If there's one thing you're aloud to be angsty about, it's your friends/family all getting eaten in front of you.

OT: I think AoT made most people cringe, though more for the sads than bads.
I'm pretty sure that the 5 stages of grief aren't just composed of:

1-Anger
2-More Anger
3-Anger with Extra Sauce
4-Anger with a side of Anger
5-Anger^2

Also whilst I get that Erin is angry, his constant shouting is just plain annoying.

Also, what kind of guard tells a mother that her child was eaten and that there is no hope for anyone? They're supposed to be guards, goddammit, as in, THE MILITARY.
How far did you watch? Please don't think i'm attacking you, i'm just curious as although at the start of the story (when he's a kid) he does do alot of shouting, but after the time skip he doe's a much wider range of shouting. I won't lie, Eren is a loud character (I think AoT is classed as Shounen so just part of the course really) but he does have alot more to yell than just anger.
About halfway into episode 2, at the point at which my ears started hurting(though I was ill at the time), I just said "NOPE"(and yes, his mother dying was pretty recent, but he was just angry for the most part, and little sadness, besides, he was already angsty even before her death(scene with the guard and all))

Sorry if I seemed to unfairly attack SnK, but after Naruto and NGE, I have a very low tolerance for angst.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the show is terrible, the animation is the best I've ever seen, and the soundtrack is pretty good, but like I said, low tolerance for angst.
Gonna be honest with you right off the bat. Eren, is the most dull character of the series. Just flat out telling you. He has a right to be angry, yes, but what kept me going throughout the series were teh other FAR MORE interesting characters who had some personality and weight in their deaths.

Thing is that while Eren's supposed to be one of the protagonists, he's the least interesting one, and that kind of sucks, but at the same time it really lets me enjoy the show to know there are others in the series who are far better than him in terms of skill and overall writing.

Just my two cents on your judgement of Eren.
Could be, but it's not just him(though he is the main reason for why I don't want to watch further), the guards in the first episode do not act as if they were part of the military, the fact that the guards inside the city are too terrified to face titans, even though that's exactly what they have been trained to fight.

Mikasa is a bit too 'Rei' for my likes, but to be fair, she still has some intrigue surrounding her, and same with that blond kid.

But yeah, I believe we are in agreement by saying that Eren is just completely passable as a character.

@Saidan

Best anime of the year? No, its one of the best. I think that vote goes to Jojo and Space Brothers, but that's just me. Others will think otherwise and that's cool.

Titan is okay mind. I do enjoy that its a sign of what more anime should be, which is more story and characters and less bs pandering fan service (which has turned me off so much anime as the years pass by). I think the last title to get the same kind of buzz was Tiger and Bunny and I can understand why.

Kudos to the creator of Titan. Its not outstanding but its a darn sight more original, than most of the crap anime coming out each year and I get why many will carry its torch. Not being afraid to off characters TWD style is also a bonus.

Hell, I'd say it's better than the Big 3 (Naruto, Bleach and One Piece/ then again those contrived stories don't really hold much merit)

Still, compared to Sword Art Online (Absolute Garbage that just looks pretty), Kill La Kill (Trigger just throwing over the top anime scenes 80 percent of the time with a sprinkle of fanservice while trying to make it a coherent story.), I can at least enjoy Attack on Titan's story.

Also Free!'s pretty good. Never was one for slice of life or drama, but it seems to get the job done.
Kill La Kill is (in my opinion) probably the best anime this season, and one of the best this year, if only for the animation. But of course, it's goddamn Trigger, so that was expected.

Also, people still watch Naruto? I mean, it's terrible. Period. I still read the manga for closure, but everything in it is just awful.

Same. First six episodes were fucking great. Then the twist comes and it turns into every anime ever with a lot more shouting.

Stopped watching shortly after. It's probably not bad per say but I've seen enough anime/anime based games to not want to watch AoT.

Ah yes, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, another favourite of mine, so yup I feel the pain too, of people ignoring a good manga simply because it does not have an anime adaptation of it.

Still, the people behind the animation are big fans of Jojo so we know the animation is a work of love. Not to mention, Araki-sensei is very critical of his own work, even adaptations of it, (he even prevented a movie adaptation of Battle Tendency from being released or even screened simply because he hated the film), so if it manages to get aired, we know Araki approves of the anime.

Dude, all Japanese music has cringeworthy lyrics when translated to English. Their songwriting is kinda weird, with all their non-sequitur metaphors and the like.

Not that I find the show that great. I watch because I'm hoping that the show will secretly be all about Nazis.
I don't know, I like bizarre, metaphorical lyrics, but I don't watch anime. I'm curious as to how you'll react to this song...

Mogwai aren't actually Japanese, but they got the singer from a Japanese band (Envy) to "Sing" for this song. Personally, I think the lyrics are beautiful.

It stretches on forever
I walk through this abyss of consciousness
Relying only on my heartbeat when I face you
The open blue reflecting eternal possibility
The words we exchange intertwine
A melancholy figure, hanging heavily
Surfaces in my mind
There must be a heart there

Soon noise will drown it out
Returning to the enveloped light
My voice raised, yearning to go back
White waves stop quietly
The song of the clouds breaking the surface
Words of promise to the insane sunlight
I gaze at the fragments of thought spread out at my feet
Tears of hope for those unfulfilled

To whom do the stars belong?
Sometime this sadness will end
My heart's response will continue the story
Silhouettes reflected in my eyes:
Countless faint smiles lined up before me
Gazing towards the exit
This beloved landscape
A vision brings

An instant of whiteness and the palm of my hand
All exists within one stride
Bells sound the arrival of the flood
The bridge of the sky and the clamor of twilight
I pass through this night; in silence
I extinguish my lamp, and in the moonlit street
Give an innocent smile for the happiness to come

I uhhh... I have nothing on topic to contribute. The only anime I've ever seen is the American re-dub of Shin-Chan. Which is hilarious. I've watched the whole show a couple times over. Principal Ench and that Flamer guy from the later episodes are two of my favorite characters from any series.

Kill La Kill I was wary of, but will check out to support Trigger. They are the kind of studio I can get behind to lift anime out of its largely mediocre creative ditch.

Suffers from some serious pacing issues and typical anime characters behaving erratically... but then has some incredibly impressive intrigue and world building, not to mention the animation and art is just downright gorgeous - and I'm not even a fan of anime.

As far as I know the next season hasn't been green lit yet, which is a shame.

As for the squinting she was probably expecting naked Japanese boxcutter blade soldiers but all she got was giant mutant back-hand slapping retard creatures with no genitals.

Edit: Has the best opening credits of any anime though. Such a catchy tune.

Titans don't have genitals so don't count as being naked!

As a 40k fan, im rather fond of Attack on Titan for its high casualty rates amongst the cannon fodder and a certain air of mystery and despair as time and time again heroic charges end up in disaster.

When eren got eaten that first time i was cheering and ready to worship Attack on Titan as a totally awesome anime which ain't afraid to take risks...Meh that didn't last :/

Ain't gonna say its best anime evar and wouldnt know enough about anime to make such a call anyways, but i just enjoy how expendable everyone is and taking bets on peoples survival rates. Hopefully it can keep up this vibe.
I'm still suprised no one has written a 40K/Attack on Titan crossover fanfiction yet. I'd love to see Imperial Guard or Space Marines vs Titans.

Send in the Angry Marine, series will be done before the intro song is done.

ANGRY MARINES, ALWAYS ANGRY. ALL THE TIME!

..... after all, Anime is HERESY!
ALL THESE DAMN TAU WEABOO WITH THEIR MORALS AND DRAMA. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS NEED?! CASSIUS ASSAULT RAM YEAH.

OT: good chuckle, i like this one very muchly. It's nice to watch something where the good guys don't often win. The germanic mythology just makes it sweeter.

After having suffered an anime drought and one-too-many K-ON!/Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!/Angel Beats marathons...

Attack On Titan felt like a breath of fresh air and I absolutely loved it from start to finish.

I'll admit there are some serious pacing issues, mostly because the first six episodes deceived me into thinking it would keep a steady but fast pace that pulls no punches in the story department. These issues weren't enough to detract from my pure enjoyment. The soundtrack, atmosphere, excellent world-building and brilliant tension building moments more than made up for its faults.

It's not for everyone and I can completely understand why the pacing or even some characters, (especially Eren) would turn off most people regarding this anime.
