Attack on Titan Will Have a Live-Action Television Show

But how many Titan fights will there be?

With the major success of Attack on Titan, it's no wonder so many opportunities for new AoT content have popped up, and apparently there's still more to come. We can now add a live-action TV series to long list of upcoming AoT content including the second season of the anime (sadly not releasing until 2016) and the two live-action films slated to release later this year.

The television series will feature Satomi Ishihara in her role as Zoë Hanji (also known as Zoë Hange), a member of the Survey Corps with an obsession/passion for researching Titans. The show will bring in cast members from the live-action movies including Nanami Sakuraba as Sasha, Shu Watanabe as Fukushi, Rina Takeda as Lil, and Ayame Misaki as Hiana, as well as feature some all-new characters created purely for the television series.

The series is set to air on dTV, a Japanese streaming service, in August of this year. The primary goal of the series is to tie together the two movies by featuring the Survey Corps in their downtime from fighting giant, people-chomping monsters.

Are you excited for another live-action rendition of Attack on Titan or would you rather see an earlier release date for season two of the anime?

I have a leaked on-set photo of me dying in the first episode.
Anyway, if they're focussing on the stuff ouside of killing titans, I don't really have a problem with it since there's only so much of spider-manning crotch-first with harpoons attached to the waist while slashing at giant naked dudes with multiple swords to be shown across media.

Cant imagine this taking off if the focus isnt the titan hunting.

Though from my observations of multimedia franchises in Japan, its going to get marketed to hell and back and people will eat it up anyway.

Also, cant help but note that casting japanese actors creates a canon conflict, as it was established early in the manga that Mikasa was the last known ethnic asian after her mother died.

Well, at least the Titans' lack of genetalia will make the censores happy. Still, it IS a show about a bunch of giant naked men and women eating people...

Live action

100 ft tall monsters and impossible physics machines.

They should invent a new name for movies that are almost 100% greenscreen.

You know what? I'm fine with this. The fucking show needs some humor to break up the monotony of people crying and screaming. Watching characters pal around could be fun. Especially if some of them mysteriously go "missing" from time to time. Besides, there are only so many times I can see the same story retold. A manga, anime, film series, and tv series? It's a little much.

Maybe they'll take the smart route and kill Aaron this time in order to save on budget.

That's one thing that confused me a bit about the announcement of a live action film honestly. They make a fairly big deal about the "asian people are super rare" thing and the entire cast is going to be Japanese.

Then again they did far more than that with Black Butler. There's a live action version of that which totally rewrote the story and setting so that they could have a full Japanese cast and don't have to set it in Victorian London.

Why would anyone in their right mind want a live action AoT?

Live action AoT is kind of an inverted version of how I usually feel about live action adaptions of anime: it's something that ONLY makes sense if you have hollywood doing it.

Seriously. only a blockbuster budget could possibly pull of the visual aesthetic required to do the source material any justice.

and this is a tv series? man... GOT is having issues fitting the scope of its source material into its budget every season, and they have waaay more resources than this project does.

I admit, I'm not sure it'll be any good.

I can't say I care for live action in general all that much.

I am already am up to date with the manga and the only thing I want is to see Season 2 which is quite a ways away.

This is Japan. Their television budgets are so constrained we'd be lucky if the Titans were string puppets.

Ugh. Just when I thought the internet was starting to shut up about that series. Couldn't we have gotten that live-action Zelda series instead?

That would have been interesting. So no.

OT: I've never understood the need for live-action AoT stuff. You've got a manga and an official anime that doesn't seem to be taking liberties with the main plot; most series don't even get that much.

I blame the viral premiere. It made this show the Imagine Dragons of anime.

Hm, not really. Its not hard to imagine that Japan doesnt really have a large pool of caucasian actors to call upon.

Well.....I will never get the appeal of these franchise but I hope it will deliver what the fans wanted. To me it is basically every shonen tropes trapped together to make a over melodramatic show.
