Whoops. I guess this belongs under 'news'. My bad.

Think you can hack working on a Timesplitters 4 mod using CryEngine? Because that's what was just announced on the '100,000 Strong for Timesplitters 4' Facebook page. News courtesy of Eurogamer.

"I have just had word from Crytek that they are going to permit and support a TimeSplitters CryEngine mod. I am now looking for modders that can handle the CryEngine. If i manage to get a group together, then they may let us use assets from the original TimeSplitters game! so the idea is to build a TimeSplitters all-in-one. All the levels, all the characters and all the weapons. If you are interested then contact me at - [email protected] or contact me on Skype - Cairn_Trenor. This is BIG for anyone that wants to get into the gaming industry!"
See, this is why I primarily game on console. You don't have to make your own games! I can't make my own games!

Well that is mighty generous of Crytek, but I wonder if people will make something of it because this isn't a small project at all.
Black Mesa for example was 8 years of work and that is a game ported on the same platform from engines that are very compatible.

Seriously? You are starting the thread with flame bait?
Oh, wasn't meant to be antagonistic. My apologies. If anything, that comment was a mark of admiration. I can't imagine working on a mod. Ever. And after reading about the issues with Ubisoft's Uplay, there's only one word I would use to describe PC gamers: patience.

There's a reason I don't play AAA games on PC and that's because I don't want to have to pay big companies big money for gaming rigs. And the reason I would rather pay big money for a gaming rig is, unlike big companies, I could never guarantee my work for 1 year :p

Mods are great! After thoroughly enjoying my M2TW, it's nice to be able to play some TATW.

I would if I was good with Cryengine and if I wasn't already involved in other mod projects. That said, I hugely support this being made, and I will be one of the first to download it if/when it gets finished.

It's the whole conundrum of gaming PCs. I know I could build a gaming rig (with the right advice) but it's the idea of something going wrong that drives me away. I think it might be all manufacturers, but at least Dell and HP, they guarantee their workmanship to be defect-free for one year. Unfortunately, their primary rigs tend to use bland motherboards with weak power supplies. Dell has their XPS line (still?) and Alienware, but at great cost. But if you build it yourself, you accept the consequences.

I knew a guy who uses only his own custom-built machines and one day he fried his RAM somehow on a new build. He emailed Crucial and they sent him replacement DIMMs, which I thought was cool, but at the same time I thought he was kind of lucky. He didn't properly ground himself before installing the DIMMs, told me himself. One day I think I'll build my own rig though. Then I start thinking about eyefinity, yeah that would be cool. Oh, and triple monitors with 4 millimeter bezels! One day.
