If this has been done... Apologies.

What are your attitudes to technology, new tech, old tech, experimental tech, futuristic (not_yet_existing) tech, tech you use, tech you used to use, tech you want to use, tech you never want to use... Any tech (hardware or software) that you have ever heard of, what are your opinions of it, how do you use it, is it all it's cracked up to be.

It's just that whichever way you look at it, this world is going to be crammed with technology in years to come (unless the four horsemen come galloping over the horizon), and we keep trying to move forward with new gadgets when we haven't really gotten used to the gizmos we have today (especially previous generations).

It's a rather strange question to ask on a gaming forum on the internet.

It might be a wild guess, but most the people here probably have a positive attitude towards technology.

Technology is essential. So many things fall under this category and for some reason, two things in particular come to mind: Bridges and the toilet. Both are taken for granted... yet how much harder would life be without these simple engineering/technological marvels?

I assume that within ten years, basic computer skills will be as essential to function in society as reading and writing skills are today.

Well I guessed most people here would know what an ipod (lack of hyphen intentional) is and aren't scared away by the number of buttons on the TV remote, but maybe I should re-state my intention for this discussion, it is not to weigh the positives and negatives of 'technology' as an entire entity, but to examine whether we are taking it in the right direction, (consider CLI against GUI, both examples of modern(ish) software concepts, yet both fundamentally different and each with unique employemnt, should we keep it as it is or would it be better to completely adopt one and give the other the ol' alt-ctl-del)

People have way too much affection for technology, and seem to discount the idea that technologies exert any sort of control over the way we live, which is dangerous. Technology is just as useful for controlling people as it is for controlling nature. We design our cities to be convenient for cars, we design our businesses to be convenient for our communications infrastructure, and so forth. Anyone who has ever phoned a customer service department knows very well that any society that is built to accommodate technologies rather than human beings is very oppressive to people.

Seconded. A visual image I didn't need...but seconded.

Though the day The Matrix or i, Robot become real...I'm going to say "I told you so". Skynet anyone?

I like some of it, like computers and stuff, but other things and completely pointless... I mean, our new microwave has a "Help" button on it... and once I was watching TV and they have a refrigerator with a TV built into it... wtf...

As large machinery goes, I'm still waiting for that flying car the Jetsons promised me.
In the near future, I figure the iPod "femto" will be a little bigger than a nickel, be imlanted in the skin behind your ear, and play music by conducting vibrations through the temporal bone. Note that this requires no new tech, someone just has to build and market it.
Genetic engineering is cool, potential-wise, but is, at present, focused in the wrong direction. Instead of curing genetic diseases, cloning replacement organs, and giving ourselves superpowers, we've got Monsanto building corn that won't grow and suing people for growing crops from saved seeds instead of buying it from them.
Cyborging--all for cyborging, the more, the better. I want a robotic spine that won't get out of joint and some non-achy electro-knees. And let us not forget a data-jack in my head for downloading porn directly into my sensory cortex.
Last but not least: nanobots. I want Jerry Pournelle/John Varley-style nanites that can repair damaged DNA, cure bad breath, and make hardwood furniture out of a pile of shredded newspaper.
VIVA LA FUTURE!

Seriously, I despise new technology.

(Except for better PC hardware)

I think that technology does not create less problems in the world, it only replaces old ones for new ones.

I love technology. Humans as a species would be nowhere without it. But at the same time, it's nice to get away from it and go to the country, have beer, relax, do some painting, or play horseshoes, or something.

It's amazing and I love it but the massive hardon people have for it is more then a little bit scary. EX- My brother was the most athletic little bastard you could imagine and then he saw a commercial for the Iphone. He hasn't picked up a basketball since.
