My $500 stereo just blew out, and I started wondering about it. I came to a conclusion: Ask the Escapist. So, if you've ever had a stereo blowout, how much did the blown equipment cost? What song were you playing at the time?

You already know the cost of mine. The song was "Godspeed Hellbound" by The Black Label Society.

I had one with my speakers, I bought new ones for a hundred bucks with built in bass.

Mine was a $10 thrift shop stereo, that an equivalent new replacement would have been worth about $200. It wasn't playing a song, though -- it was mostly used to play movies and videogames through a hafler circuit, to get cheap surround sound. I went to turn it on one morning, and heard a crackling coming out of one of the channels, which had burned out. Fortunately, it burned out about a month before Christmas, and there wasn't much I wanted anyway, so I'm now the proud owner of a brand new 5.1 system. It is amazing.

Cool. That's fortunate that christmas was right around the corner. I'm going to have to scrape together my money and hope it's enough. Heh.
