Aussie Lesbian Gamer Geek Wedding is Awesome and Adorable

Say you're a geek, finally tying the knot with your beloved (who is also a geek). What could be better than having a nerdy wedding with a Portal and Revolutionary Girl Utena theme?

This one goes under "Awwwwww" for the week: Data analyst Anli and her girlfriend Laura (a public servant) might not have been able to legally marry each other down in Australia, but it's the thought that counts, isn't it? And frankly, I don't think a ceremony like this one can be called anything but a wedding.

The duo were married last month in New South Wales, and decided to eschew some of the more traditional wedding activities in favor of others - they kept the bouquets, the bridesmaids, and the (very, very pretty) dresses, but went full-on geek for the other stuff, as seen on Offbeat Bride [http://offbeatbride.com/2009/10/lesbian-gamer-wedding/#referrer]:

[blockquote]Because our wedding was so small, we skipped having a dance floor and invited guests to games of Lupus In Tabula after dinner. Our cake and bonbon were companion-cube shaped. We played Rock Band instead of having a Hens Night. And we walked down the aisle to an obscure piece of music from [Revolutionary Girl Utena].[/blockquote]

Congrats to the happy couple, but I have just one question: If this was, in fact, a Revolutionary Girl Utena wedding, did one of them turn into a sports car and drive the other away from a repressive world of responsibility and tradition in a really trippy sequence of symbolism that nobody ever understands until it's explained to them?

...yeah, don't ask. You're probably better off not knowing.

AWWWWWWW :D I want to get married like this XD

And also, can we clearly and forever establish the cake is not, in fact, a lie?

Absolutely no reason to bring this up in this topic.
I would have to agree. That paragraph is just begging to start a flame.

OT: That's awesome. While it may not be legal, it's good that they are happy. I want a piece of that cake!

Congratulations to them, and the wedding cake looks great.

There's a nice quote from a movie that would fit in well with "it's the thought that counts." I even forgot the name of the movie, but it had Kevin Smith in it and a few other cast members from Clerks.

That made me *squee* a little inside.

And wonder if they dressed as Utena/Anthy, in which case that'd make it all 100% better.

You're right, that IS absolutely adorable. I just wish it legally counted as a real wedding, these two ladies sound like they definitely deserve that much.
It does? It's Australia.

edit: Ok, disregard that. Apparently I was talking out of my ass.

So technically I guess it could be called a celebration of their friendship. Very cute celebration and cake.

Somewhere, in some dark chamber, GlaDOS sits, seething at the fact that not only is the cake not a lie, but its a companion cube! ...so delicious and moist...
But two thumbs up to this couple showing imagination and ingenuity, while also respecting a beautiful rite of joining. (And to all you people that just wanna say, but they aint really married because it wasn't legal: Stick it in your ear. Government has no place in matrimony in its deepest down basic sense as far as I am concerned.) I wish the lovely couple many decades of joy and happiness. Geek On!

Portal and Rockband at a wedding? As far as weddings go, I'm pretty sure that qualifies as epic.

Not quite as good as the wedding at the foot of the life size Gundam statue in my opinion, but still pretty awesome.

Now if they'd had this wedding at the foot of the Gundam statue...well I think my mind would have been blown.

OMG.

Anthy IS GladOS. It's true. I know it's true.....

*shakes head*

What?

Okay, no, that is truly awesome. If I ever get married, I may steal their theme entirely. (Although I may do Jury/Shiori instead of Utena/Anthy. Shiori keeps the backstabbing on a figurative level.)

Unless I do a Read or Die theme.

(Psst! DQ, you need a girlfriend (or boyfriend) first before you plan your wedding.)

Oh. Right. I'll be over here.

Lets not get into Revolutionary Girl Utena, mkay? It's a bit too trippy to just go and explain.

On Topic, that's pretty freakin cool. Why couldn't any of the weddings I worked over the summer have been awesome like that?
