This DRM is actually stopping piracy, which is a industry first (well, except for splinter cell chaos theory). AC 2 still not cracked after almost a month out.
It was my impression that AC2 actually has been cracked. I don't really follow that sort of thing, though.
its cracked but not fully.

you can play the game but you cant start the plot related missions so you can either roam the city and do stuff or load a save file and have every weapon and just go nuts on the guards.

i follow these things just in case i need a crack for some pesky DRM like the one on Bioshock.....

This is exactly why Ubisoft and EA have the worst DRM possible.

Ban this piece of crap, we are being once more treated like criminals. AWAY with your head.
Aren't we being treated worse than criminals?
Last time I checked the criminals were playing the game.
EDIT: Fixed grammar.

Ubi are the worst software company on this Earth. I knew they would mess up their DRM and I saw all this coming, because I used to play Ubi games years ago back when I was silly enough to buy them and I'm very familiar with how often their multiplayer servers go down. Ubi's servers going down has been a long-standing problem that Ubi simply don't have the capacity to fix, because they are either stupid, or lazy, or penny-pinching, or all three. This problem will not get better. It will keep happening, along with all the other problems that Ubi already have that make them a poor company to deal with and to buy games from. Don't expect a backdown from Ubi - if there's one thing Ubi have consistently proved than they never do under any circumstances, it's listen to their PC customers.

It won't stop piracy either. To crack AC2 just requires getting the missing information from the server from a legit copy, finding a way of storing that on a pirate copy, and then teaching the program to access the pirate copy's information and not the server's. A piece of piss for any self-respecting pirate with a bit of basic coding knowledge. Rest assured that even if AC2 wasn't properly cracked on release day, it sure as hell has been by now. Also, even assuming that AC2 can't be cracked (which is false), it's a huge mistake to assume that pirates will pay for the game because they can't crack it.

I have a moral duty to never buy a Ubi game again. I don't care if they release the best game in the world.

Is this relevant, really, anymore?

According to America, Australia is one of the highest pirating nations. So by their logic we shouldn't be affected overly much.

You expect a nation descended from the worst of the worst to be law abiding?
Hey! We're not that bad! *steals your keyboard*

Cracks for removing those kind of things aren't illegal though, are they? And they're out fairly swiftly no matter the game.
Deleting the video files on my system isn't illegal, but I don't think that the predicament is necessary from the start.

Imagine that UbiSoft's games were in fact, your car, Ubi themselves being the dealer.
The bus and truck are both different, and slightly less entertaining games from another company.
Their DRM can be thought-of as an electronic key that uses wireless internet to validate itself, in an attempt to make sure the vehicle isn't being hotwired.
The final piece, namely the enjoyment you get from playing the game, can be equated to your job (aka work).

I don't give two peanut-decorated shits WHY my key won't let me start my car, the fact is I'm late for work because I have to take the bus because my fucking car won't start. And while the problem may rest entirely with the key, the car may be just peachy otherwise, it doesn't change the fact that I'm late for work. The whole fucking reason I bought the car was to get to my job, and if it can't do that reliably with the car I bought, I'm taking it back to the dealer to get my money back. I'll buy some truck from another company and never buy from this dealer again in my life!
This analogy, while clever, does not work, because you cannot return your PC games (car) once bought because of licensing laws.

What the hell are you talking about? Do you have any idea how trivial the crimes were that landed you in Australia as a convict?

Sure pickpocketing Lord Sussexfolk's watch got you a trip here, but jail changes people. Go in a lowly theif, come out a mass murderer.

Besides, as anyone of any heritage will tell you, they are allowed to mock their own roots.

I apologise, I didn't realise you were from here. Kinda hard to tell on the internet if you are joking or being serious. Ignorance about convicts just really gets me.

Oh and this isn't the first time Ubi have screwed over their customers with DRM. Check out the following link for delicious irony.

The hackers were pretty much like "of course you realize, THIS means war." Ubisoft has how many employees in that security department versus HOW many pissed-off hackers with a point to prove?

Yeah. Might want to rethink that one, dumbasses. Antagonizing your customers is no way to make a buck. Antagonizing people who have the power to make nuclear attacks on the integrity of your brand for no reason other than "because they can" is an even worse way to make a buck.

Thanks for the link BonsaiK.
Ubisoft pretty much shot themselves with the issues surrounding Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and the CD Check.
The link is worth checking out.

Get your act together Ubisoft! If you're going to go with such a restrictive system, make sure it WORKS!

You know, I was looking forward to buying AC2 and the new Splinter Cell. Now, as far as I'm concerned, Ubisoft and it's products do not exist. Having been a paying PC gamer since my N64 got bricked like 7 years ago, I simply cannot accept what they are doing to my console of choice. I sold my copy of AC1 to Gamestop under the hope that it would get circulated on the second hand market as much as possible. If I could, I would've also returned my Splinter Cell 1 that I bought off Steam.

What concerns me even more that EA for some reason decides to take up on this with C&C4. I'm not sure what I would do if they put this ridiculous joke of a system on a game I truly cannot wait for, Mass Effect 3.

Oh sure, this being the days of the internet surely you could go by the assumption that most people I have access to broadband, and as do I. It's a decent enough broadband too, when it works. It gets dodgy as fuck during weekends, and you know what I do when it does start to get hiccups? I play singleplayer games.

I buy games so I can play them, not so they can sit on my shelf with their cover art acting like fucking paintings.

Just to clarify, I don't even pirate Ubisoft games. I'm not acknowledging their existence, at all.

Yeah I couldn't register my copy of Prince of Persia on XBox live since the Ubisoft game servers were down or something. I'd hate to be an ACII PC player...
