The Story
I have some pretty shitty neighbours. One of them is a young guy who revs his car in the garage all day long (which is right next to my bedroom where I sleep). The other day the street was swarmed with police. Because my best friend is a Policemen I was able to ask him what the low-down was. He told me the guy was brandishing a meat cleaver and threatening to kill his girlfriend or someone in his house. Many windows of the home were broken and to escape arrest the man jumped over some back fences (probably mine, I was at work at the time). The cops eventually got him. Good I thought. He gets what he deserves for being a douche bag.
Now stay with me here because this is related and I will be asking for advice. I have two cats and because the last one got killed by a car on the nearby main road we decided to make an outdoor cat enclosure. It didn't take much time or money to make so no I don't think it's crazy at all. We did our best to seal it including the bottom underneath the neighbours fence. One day one of my cats got its leg caught in the fence. There was massive blood loss and the limb was hanging off the bone. Although the neighbours do have a dog, when I came to help the cat get free I heard no noises of any kind from the other side of the fence. If it were a dog you would think it would still be barking. The neighbours had made a point of telling me they hate cats.
I took the cat to the vet and now I'm out of pocket $1000 for an amputation. The cat is fine with three legs and gets around quite well. The vet made a point of saying that there wasn't any teeth marks to speak of on the wound and it was almost as if the limb was grasped or clamped.
Long Story Short
To put it simply, I'm pretty damn sure (although I don't have definitive proof) that my neighbour was the one that deliberately caught my cats arm. Tomorrow I will probably be going to the Police anyway to tell them my side of the story but realistically what are my options of getting justice on this thug?
