The stooge was obviously crazed. Games don't MAKE you into a killer. Businesses are in it for the money, not the death, ergo they are not making messages of death. People would love to blame video games, but there's a TINY flaw in that line of thinking.

[HEADING=1]PEOPLE KILLED PEOPLE BEFORE VIDEO GAMES!!![/HEADING]

It is childish and absurd to say "The game made me do it.". It did not. You're a lunatic. Go fly over the cuckoo's nest and don't darken my towels ever again.

I see then.

cause it couldnt possibly be all those samurai, pirate, and knight movies that influenced this.

Or maybe that braveheart film.
Or all the blasted History classes they have in them schools!
Filling their heads with industrial revolutions and communism and gengis khan.

The idea that the gaming and violence ISNTS linked, The game he was playing could have had no influence on his outburst. Maybe he was $4 away from paying off his animal crossing house, and she flicked the power off.

My brother deleted a 160hour Pokemon Red save file when i was 12, and i attacked him with a Pool Noodle for 5 minutes. There are no pool noodles in Pokemon, it was JUST WHAT WAS THERE. I didn't stock up on Badgers and snakes, waiting for the day to flip out in a context- appropriate manner.

Actually, look at the headline for the news story that he linked to.

"14-year-old slays great-grandmother with sword, stabs grandmother over video game dispute"
That's not blaming video games. Simple reading comprehension would tell you that isn't blaming video games. That's just saying that the source of the attack was over a dispute involving video games. That's different from "video games caused this attack". It IS NOT blaming video games. The author here on the Escapist put that spin on the article... it is a blatantly sensationalist and exploitative spin on an article.

Seriously. The article didn't blame video games in the slightest. If you say so otherwise, then you are reading into the article, and are inventing it. There's NOTHING here to discuss. Seriously.

After reading that, I'm stuck with this ultimate question...

What game was the kid playing?

Someones overly defensive. I was pointing out that it's where the news poster thought they could be. No need to bite my head off over it, that's just childish and dickish.

The real problem is that kids test the limits of what they can get away with all the time, and too many parents react to that power struggle by simply and repeatedly saying "no" to the kid. The kid learns that there are no consequences to it's actions but apathetic words, and that they are the kings of the household. One day, when it is much too late, someone sets them limits they never knew and they react by enforcing their will with tragic consequences.

1st time you say "no".
2nd time you say "NO!"
3rd time you smack them.
4th to n'th time you smack 'em harder until they do as they are told.

I wonder why this trend doesn't spread to otehr things, i mean theres bound to be sime sick fucks who kills people because they won't let them have their prefered meal, but you don't hear headlines like "KFC blamed for grizly murder"

Or to put it even more on edge, i'd sadly be willing to bet that more people are kileld/raped because they weren't willing to sleep with their assainlant, but you'll never hear a headline about a womans lack of lust for her assailent beeing blamed as the main reason she got killed, and thank god for that.

Just wondering why there are enough people stupid enough to buy into it when i's about video games, to make it worthwhile to come with statements like the one in the article...

You need a license to own a gun but you don't need a license to own a sword. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

.......So...They let the kid keep his swords after he was already arrested for attacking his grandma with one?!

....What the hell, man. The kid already proved he's not responsible enough to have one. Why let him keep them?!

It's not unusual for this site to use blatant sensationalist headlines that distort the truth of their source material to get hits on articles, so don't worry about it.
Actually, look at the headline for the news story that he linked to.

He stabbed them over a dispute (about video games). The dispute is the cause attributed to the stabbing. Video games were only the subject of the dispute. Authorities blamed the dispute, not video games.

Wait, what? How the hell did he even get a sharp weapon?

Even my katana and daggers are blunt on purpose, because it's quite illegal to buy such objects. No shop will do that, you can sharpen them, but no battle-ready objects allowed.
Really? Where do you live? I own a properly sharpened Ghurka Kukri, and I'm in Britain.

OT: Am I the only one who thought "poor dog! Getting whacked on the nose!"?

In all seriousness, anyone willing to harm their own grandmother is a grade-A dickwipe, insane or not.

When I read the title, I thought it was a parody thread. This is getting ridiculous.
They can't just keep blaming games for people's psychological problems.
