Ok guys, I need a reccomendation of Antivirus software. I currently have a copy of norton that came with my computer, however it leaps into Defcon 1 mode everytime it sees anything as dangerous as a tracking cookie. (The tasty kind, or so I'm told by my friends) I don't mind paying for a decent package but it has to be a) effective and b) not intrusive. Any ideas guys?
I've been personally using AntiVir for the past 10-15 years, and have had very few issues. My current laptop came with a free copy of Norton, as well, which I've setup to effectively run itself and be very low-impact (I'm not a fan of Norton, but a free extra layer of security for free really isn't anything to bark about, nevermind that they've improved a good bit over the last couple decades).
If anything, I'd recommend AntiVir. Kaspersky is also quite good, and there's a couple of others that are pretty effective...as far as whichever you choose not being too intrusive, however, it really boils down mainly to your user settings. Some are a touch more forgiving than others (Norton is a little on the gung-ho side of the spectrum), so it's best to shop around with trial versions and see what options they give you. I get a couple of notifications through taskbar pop-ups that fade out in about five seconds with AntiVir, and they don't push to front over full-screen applications (games/video), so it's definitely a plus in that regard. Your browser of choice sometimes works into it, but it's fairly marginal.
