Funny how many people want to see "mighty humans come back with mighty military power and take everything and beat up puny primitives". Wouldn't a Michael Bay film be more up your alley?

I fell asleep during Dances with Smurfs. First film where I've ever fallen asleep in the cinema.

I sincerely hope that they have a decent story line up because I don't think it can ride by on just it's pretty 3D visuals this time around.

Despite all the hate this film seems to get I'm actually more on the cautiously optimistic side. I actually kind of liked the first one, but I have a feeling that had more to do with the potential the story had, rather than what they actually did with the painfully one dimensional characters and heavy handed message.

I think a lot of the resentment comes from just how idealized the Na'vi are. If they added just a touch more nuance to both sides rather than making things so black and white then I doubt people loathe the Na'vi as much.

Pretty much this. There's no logical other outcome. Also I'd like to see the main character be called out for the whole god damn fight being his fault for not doing his one job.
I also can't wait for the inevitable issues between the main couple that either resolve themselves, or the girl dies giving us a character we are really supposed to hate in the third movie.

i never understood why avatar is so popular. besides amazing visual, i really have to give it that, it was soooo generic and i worked out the entire plot in the first 20 minutes after seeing the characters.
guy in wheel stair: will switch sides.
scarface general: will be the villain.
blue female alien the camera fixes on: will be the love interest of human protagonist.

nothing was original. i nearly fell asleep during the movie. even in 3D.

now if this new can bring something original then i might see it. otherwise; i stay away from it and watch rather star wars every year.

I wonder what movies Avatar 2 will rip off? Fingers crossed for Bayformers!
ah yes. the first one was a ripoff from pocahontas. certainly reminded me of that as well. but generally other movies too.
maybe they will rip off conquest of paradise.

You know "The moral high ground means nothing when confronted by raw power and the brutal will to use it without restraint" might be a more realistic moral, but it sure as hell makes for a shitty ending to a movie. If you want to see people suffer for the greed of those with more brute strength you could always watch the news.

OT: Not exactly striking while the iron is hot are we? I have no doubt this sequel can do well, but the people who liked the first movie don't really seem to think about it much any more. I could totally see this failing to generate a huge runaway hype train and thus not making the record shattering amounts of money the people behind it are probably hoping for.

Reverse Independence Day? That would be awesome!
Anyway.
You know I really loved the first Avatar, but overtime it started to look like a tech demo. A very pretty and enjoyable tech demo, but not terribly deep or worth talking about three days after I've seen it.
I still like the movie for what it is but I'm not sure if a sequel's a terribly great idea. Oh well, I'll try to enjoy it anyway.
