I'm biased against threads about how we can claim to know a person's entire personality based on the 100x100 picture they choose to show on an internet forum.
yeah you can't know everything.
BUT how a person chooses to represent themselves says a lot about them.

Take mine, he's a little surly looking sure so you could infer grumpy/sarcastic (both which i can be)
further than that two more facts arise, he's a comics character (marvel, if you know the character then your likely as nerdy as me, and would probably point it out, as has been done) And you can infer certain things about me as a comics fan (more is true than i would wish.

The last is that i watch anime (it being a chibi style picture, an artform prevalent in anime) as such and you could probably guess that i have some knowledge and interest in the area from that.

Other avatar traits such as humor, trollishnes, or individual tastes can all be reasonably deduced from such information. If you don't like what people assume of you, then pick better, they exist for the purpose of differentiating yourself from other people (something all the pony avatars fail at and thus you become a hive mind)

OT i have a bias against the pony avatars because apart from one persons (the crocodile guy) they all look the same and as such its a pain figuring out who each respondee is. And that people who think the most interesting thing in their lives is that show worry me.
That's an impressive analytical skill there. However, you're you, so do mine to see if you can get that much detail.

OT: No, I don't tend to judge people on their avatars. Usually, I just use to quickly identify who someone is. As you said, though the pony ones get confusing.

I don`t really judge by avatars but anime avatars are a bit more eye catching than the live action gifs. live-action gifs kind of annoy. me

I'm biased against avatars that flaunt pointless aspects of a person's personality like their race of their sexuali...ty... *looks at own avatar* shut up!

Okay then I hate avatars that are screencaps from an Escapist show cropped to fit in the... oh god fucking damn it!

OK, serious time: The MLP ones do kind of bug me but i'm not going to ignore the person because of it. It just confuses the shit out of me why so many people are suddenly obsessing over a show that really isn't very good. Yes, I've seen some episodes. No, I wasn't impressed or amused.

I immediately assume 4chan meme spewing, Google translate Japanese babbling, loli watching Weeaboo when I see an anime avatar. Personal experiences have always been bad for me.
I like your avatar because I recognise the scene it's from, although it would look a bit neater if it was less wide.

I just skim posts for interesting material without thinking about the avatar, although I guess the avatar could influence my expectations a bit. I might read a boring post by someone with an interesting and bold-looking avatar and username that catches my attention.

The screen shot I used for my avatar doesn't look very sharp resized, I can never decide on an avatar I really like. I hope no-one really judges me for it.

I tend to be nicer to people with kirby in their avatars. Also I've noticed someone with the same avatar as me and I agree with him on most things.

Meh, I don't really bother with avatars. I'll read what someones posted, then look to the left and be all like "Ohey, it's that guy again." I like to think I'm not biased.

I wonder what people think when they come across my avatar?
When I look at your avatar, it reminds me of a show I wish was still airing...

Well there's this one guy who has an avatar where there's like blue and red particles swirling all around and towards you and it's all pretty and awesome. And that makes his posts more agreeable to me.

Yes it's just a 60x60 gif but it makes me feel like an awesome astronaut.

Man, someone find this person. I need to bookmark his profile page.
Found him! "Fayathon"
I agree with all of his posts.

Kinda like the OP, I have loliphobia. Those little girls are just freaking scary to me. They combine my fear of big eyes and my inability to understand Japanese art style with my hatred of children.

I don't have anything against those who use them though! Actually, I've had exclusively good experiences with the users behind the icons.

Not biased against avatars, but something much more meaningful - a profile health meter.

If I read someone's post and see that it sounds trollish / hateful / fucktarded, I just throw a quick glance to their profile health meter. If it's yellow/red, I'm pretty much gonna never read their posts again.
Woah, isn't that a little extreme!? I mean, its not too hard to get warnings on this forum. Not that I have a problem with that or anything, moderators of escapist.

My avatar has been broken since I upgraded /sigh it makes me a sad panda.

People with really close to porno avatars and anything with the fword in it just for the sake of it tend to make me think a poster has a higher chance of being a jerk or a moron.
Is that... the last unicorn?
You can see it?!

For me it's just a broken ??? in the box. Well at least it's there eh, gotta be happy for that lol.

And yes, it is. Childhood favorite that made it into becoming sacred upon adulthood in that special way some things do sometimes.

I thought you were going to point out the "white civilization VS African/Native American/Indian/etc" theme that's hidden in the movie Avatar. I am disappointed.

Yeah.

I tend to react have negative thoughts about people with Mass Effect 2 avatars, Red Dead Redemption avatars, and Extra Credits badges as their public badges.

Nah, not really. No avatars bug me, but lack-of avatars do. I remember people by their avatar more than their name usually so when someone doesn't have an avatar I feel kinda like I don't trust them in some strange way.

On a side note, I wonder if anyone has a bias to my Pulsating Vagina Monster gif that I made?
Ha ha ha ha ha! I just clicked the "red button", so the gif ( I assume ) you're using right now is Justian Beiber. Ha!

I don't think I have a bias against any type of avatar...

I do love avatars with awesome hats though ;)
Awesome hats like mine, of course?

I have a rather open bias in favour of people with slenderman avatars. You know, almost none of the people who have 'em.

ARGH! Ever since I bronied up I scroll down the page and only read the posts with pony avatars, just because they attract my attention.

I don't want to cause outrage, but I do tend to ignore other posts. I can't really help it, I just get bored in the head. I'M SORRY WORLD!

Judgmental much? I really wasn't expecting this sort of BS from fellow Escapists.
That's odd. I expect it from this forum.

OT though I generally like animated avatars because it jumps out. Mine is supposed to be animated but I can never get it to work.

Nope. The only thing that irritates me is when people change them, since I never look at names.

Funny thing is; I enjoy slow paced dialogue centred movies and shows. Lucky Star was just a bit boring to me.
I'll read the manga though and see if that's any better since... well typically they are in general, even if the anime is already good, the manga's always better >.>
Hellsing is one of those things where the anime is better than the manga. I'm talking about the Hellsing Ultimate series of OVAs here, the original anime series was fairly decent but not as good as the manga. How do you make a story that has Nazi vampires invading England better? Why, you animate it of course.

Black Lagoon I am also torn on whether the anime or manga is better.

Also, don't change your avatar.

Hmm, I didn't notice that. In my defense I've been up for quite a long time now so I'm not surprised to have over looked that.
Look, you've really only got two choices here. You can either blame Neonbob or Scde2, or make lame excuses that nobody is going to believe. Choose wisely.
