Is it just me, or do at least 54% of people think it was overrated? It seems to be a movie on which no official consensus exists.

No, trust me a lot of people here think it's overrated. It's not good but it's not bad so hopefully people will eventually forget it.

The Core used unobtanium, their drill ship was made from the stuff. Had to be in order to survive the silly temps in the Earth's core.

Avatar was okay, stylish, well paced, action packed. Let down by bad plot, two dimensional characters and the blatant hype. All in all average. It's a fluff movie. Turn off brain before watching, you won't need it. The explosions, pretty aliens and giant mechs will soothe any possible "Uhhhhhhhhh What?" moments with the plot.

Well, this is kind of a pointless thread.

OT: No, I don't think it's overrated at all because many people don't like it and it didn't get any exceptional ratings from critics either. I personally think it's a really good movie, mainly for the visuals(yes, brainless fun is still fun).

It is overrated, but that doesn't mean it's a bad film, because it's not. Visually, it was astounding and, while that plot has been done before, it wasn't a bad story, just predictable.

I like avatars. They make you stand out and they're a great way to show people who you are. But I don't see why it's so important for you to find someone who agrees with you?
Your either being funny or ignoring the OP. Don't post if your not going to refer to the subject!

OT: Im a little surprised you have not met someone who hated.

My friends love it!The Escapist does not......
Sorry, won't be funny again.
To make up for it I will say that Avatar (the movie) is okay, nothing more. Also... You will probably think I am an idiot (if you don't do that already) but I didn't think the visuals were that mindblowing. I didn't really feel immersed in the world that everyone else, even the haters, seems to have been. But that could be because the design of Pandora and it's environment was among the most retarded things I have seen.

I didn't think it was that good.
I mean, it was basically Pocahontas with blue people.

it was alright... I think the movie would have been better had the Na'vi had been blow up after the big fight scene but thats just me

the storyline if very plain but I think that was "intentional"

all in all, I thought it was good but simple

You had an opinion, congratulations. I have to ask why everyone is turning this into a new version of "does God exist?" Seriously people need to understand it is a MOVIE. MOVIES are a TASTE thing. I've taken to calling this never ending online madness Ava-tardation.

I watched it, it's visually great, the action was pretty cool, the 3D worked out fine and it has the most determined villain I have seen in a movie in ages(The Colonel guy was awesome). The story is balls, the acting is ok and it had some pacing issues. These are valid points.

What we need to put an end to is "It's just Pocahontas Dances with Smurfs in space fern gully". Good for you you noticed something that is patently obvious get the fuck over it. Star Wars wasn't 100% original either (I'm told a lot of it is ripped off a movie called the Lost Fortress or some such). Also watch In His Masters field apparently that is the closest to avatar.

Now can everyone please give this a fucking rest?

Very much overrated. Twas meh and I honestly couldn't understand the hype. Which is not surprising considering that my aunt did. No, really, my aunt loved it, it was weird.

But the plot was tragicly poor. When I first saw Pandora I was in a kind of "no, I will not survive this movie". But then it became bearable.

Oh no, you aren't. DO you feel better now? I sure hope your quest for attention was worth it. It was a particularly original topic too. I mean, you put so much effort into it as well. That single sentence must have taken you ages to write - I mean that. Bravo!

So no, OBVIOUSLY, because you aren't the only person in the world, and you aren't a unique snowflake, SOMEBODY ELSE ALSO 'thought Avatar was overrated'. Than again, that kind of thing doesn't make sense to me. I mean - if you are the kind of person who is fixated on what other poeple think, then I guess it might matter to you how 'over' or 'under' rated something is. I guess if you are such a person, you might even start to wonder why everybody else has 'gone crazy' to like this thing that you don't. Then again, you could just ... no I won't finish that sentence. There's some space at IMDB. This thread would be right at home over there.

I don't get why so many people set themselves up as the 'rating police' deciding when to punish the things that are 'overrated'. Who the hell cares? Well clearly you do, but why? Let people LOVE it. Let people HATE it. Let people think it was simply OK. Different strokes. Nothing is 'overrated' because such merit and worth can never be objectively defined. I have never understood people who decide how much they like something based on how much or how little OTHER PEOPLE like it.

I thought it was okay. But it is definetly not the best or worst movie out there. I have seen alot worse and there are alot of better movies out there. If anyone really wants to see it though don't go and buy it or even rent it, just wait until you have a friend thats stupid enough to buy it and go watch theirs and then you can brag to all the nerds out there that you saw it. And you can say you wasted another 2 or 3 hours of your life on pointless movies.

Yes, I think its was overrated. I enjoyed it, but it could have been shorter. It dragged at times, and the plot and acting were nto enough to keep me engaged.

Avatar was okay, but that's about it. What frustrates me is the fact Cameron had years to write it well, which would have been free, but no. Think how many more interesting films could have been made with that same amount of money.

I thought the film was brilliant when i first saw it but after the hype i can't stand it.

It was good but hardly the greatest film ever, and no fucking reason for anyone to paint themselves blue.

Give me break will ya, I just came out of the Indy 5 news thread. Don't hound me with Avatar aswell.

I just didn't like it. I didn't hate it, I just couldn't buy into the characters, the story, the stupid cartoony jungle and wildlife.
