I did a search but all I got was stuff on where you got your avatar so I maybe repeating someone else but what are your thoughts

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LQkTQ1foSU

Its basically space marine vs alien race thingy? I am kinda torn between it being everything I want in life and my expectations of how horribly bad movies seem to be lately compared to older movies. They also seem to be trying to sell it on the fact that whoever the hell is making it seemed to have made every big selling movie in the past years. Plus the alien design annoys me.

So what are your thoughts?

Seen it before, just new skin.

That's my thoughts. Doesn't mean it's not good, just means I've seen the plot before.

That movie never interested me, it just looks like Halo with some not-so-subtle allegory about 'Respecting mother Earth' I'm much more interested in this Avatar movie.

now that I want to see.

Dunno. The game wasn't that good, and I'm not exactly sure what all the hype is actually about (Something about the plot? Universe?) but the human machines and stuff seem cool. I'd wait a bit for other people's reactions to it before watching it myself.

I do not know what possessed them to let M. Night Shamalzazzle direct this movie, he is a terrible director (Never seen Sixth Sense so to me all of his movies are shite) but I liked the show so much that I will give it a chance. I hope it turns out good.

[small]sorry for slight thread derailment.[/small]

I am not really sure I guess I just have had a very barren last few months completely negating action films so maybe a health kick in the ass would do me some good. My only problem is that it seems like space marines vs. blue elves and I just cant stand elves. Oh look at my pointy ears and my well rounded learning based culture. Now look at these dirty plebian humans.

I guess I am just racist against a non-existant race.

Yea I am never opening night kinda guy plus I think I saw somewhere it was in 3d and I havnt really experianced this phenomena yet so maybe it might be worth a shot now. By the way how did 3d worm its way back into our media again I thought it died in the 80's..

Also I didnt realize it was a game however I am noticing that games keep worming their way onto the big screen and no one is the wiser.

The hype I would say is probably the fact that they dusted off the mechs from the matrix and used them in another movie. Plus the director is some big shot or something I am not horribly learned in movies but I know my way around a convorsation with people who do. All I know about this guy is that his name is plastered on every trailer for it. Ironically I cant think of his name and I am feeling to lazy to click on a link, go figure.

These aliens simply won't do. I blatantly refuse to watch a movie that doesn't have aliens that are suited to my taste.
Thats my problem I am almost willing to look over it for the huge action sequence but seriously they had to go with the we are deinty peace loving people. Why not just bypass all the bullshit and just make them big and evil and go the rehashed classic route or making it the good guys vs. bad guys with awesome visuals. I dont want to be versed in a bunch of piss around politics when I go and see an action flick. I have plenty of other movies that can give me that.

It's directed by James Cameron, he directed Aliens (the second one) as well as terminator 2 (the well thought out one (by terminator standards)), so he has a lot of experience with both big action scenes, and the idea of... *sigh* Alienation.

I know some games based on films who where pretty shit, so I'm kinda scratching my head over a film based on a game.
Prepare for judgement, James.

Looks like over hyped crap to me.

The trailer wants me to take it seriously but I find it very difficult to take blue cats seriously.

i am going to see it, but really the plot could have been a little more original, and the alien design doesn't really bother me

when was this based on a game, there is a game coming out for this, but the movie apparently has been in production for a while.

EXACTLY!!!
BUT THAR'S LEIK ONE GIE HO AIN'T EVIL AND FALLS I LOVE WITH ONE OF THE ALIENS!!

it sells dude, I'll watch it for the CGI and laugh at how lovable the aliens are who are basically living a garden of Eden yet they probably don't even have such a regular vice like human/blue elf sacrifice to their gods, it's like Ewoks but less awesome

I would probably guess that it was at one point an nes game that featured a few guys fighting aliens and you were a blue guy that had to fight both sides to find something stupid. Old nes games seem to be squeaking onto the big screen without many people noticing. Hell look at crank.

Back to the OP: Yes, it's marines vs. aliens. Basically, it's Fern Gully in Space. Human character comes out to harvest resources, gets turned into one of the wilderness denizens, meets the female love interest, learns about the wonders of trees and nature and swirling sparklies and turns against the degenerate technological society he grew up in.

Except, that in this one, the evil corporation's ass needs kicking to produce a climax. The only thing I'm really curious about is what, exactly, the corporation is mining that makes it worth transporting legions of heavily armed troops across the stars. Some kind of shiny rock, yes, but what is it for? Does it cure cancer? Allow pollution-free power generation? What?
