Mine is pretty nerdy. Mine is "Balmung of the Azure Sky" from the anime/game series .hack//sign.
The series is based off a popular MMO called "The World" gone horribly wrong where people are going into comas, and getting trapped inside the game. In "The World" Balmung is considered one of the games best players. I've been playing MMO's since I was 12 and I always wanted that title of best in some really popular online game. I guess that's why he's my avatar.

That is just awesome! I love it when people take their time to do this. Yuletide coat and Jovial demeanor with that Gin and tonic.
Yuletide suit with the Holly livery. Didn't last long because I thought it would be a lark to boycott the Holiday Council for a while.
White jacket and suit. This avatar is still used for me on my Youtube and Steam accounts.
Sunday Cream coat. I think I used this for some delightfully begotten Autumn.

Summer Green. I don't think I've used this one... It's the only one where the figure is not wearing a shirt under the jacket.
Most of them are in full resolution, so you can see them in max size 1000x1000 is you quote me to take apart the picture codes, or Right-click and go 'View image'.
I just recently sought a new avatar after having stuck with the same one for over 10 years (I'm old...). I was looking for one that showed my appreciation for classic/underdog/oddball RPGs such as Stonekeep or Bioforge but those are hard to come by so I chose Fallout's Vault Boy for now. I love how it looks great in both a light and a dark background so I'll probably stick with it until something even better comes along (or if someone has any suggestions, feel free to PM me).

I just found mind on deviantart and thought it looked cool... Although I did put a bit of thought into it.
I tend to sort of judge people by their avatars. They give you an idea of the person's sense of humour, intrests or taste.

This is Vrex, he has always been my gaming avatar ever since I first tried to call myself 'Trex' in the name select profile of Halo 1 and hit V by accident and from thence I made a little modded version of the gmae where I made an aqua coloured elite. Said elite later joined me in Halo 2 and all the other games around that time frame as a more detailed version and from then on was with me as I saw through my years of gaming as Vrex the aqua elite. Then along came the 360 and Halo 3 and thus came forth Vrex360.... every game I've played, every forum I've been on, every game I guy, Vrex has always been my avatar, this is what I look like when I play online multiplayer so in essence he is my true 'gaming face' therefore the choice of an avatar was obvious here.
