ok, so i was thinking about buying tickets for avitar for my family for christmas (5 people including me) and i just wanted to know how "family friendly" it is. my youngest sister is 10, and my mom hates movies with excessive laguage/sex/violence. i know it's PG13, just wondered if anyone had any good advice

edit: please excuse my spelling, i'm doped up on migraine meds

Well it's an alright movie, nothing up to when there is a brief showing of alien sex and a good bit of tragedy, other than that it's a nice movie to watch with the family

There is kind of a sex scene, a lot of violence (robot/alien knife fights anyone?) but it isn't too gory. Also, if anyone in your family gets dizzy easily, don't go.

Avatar* is pretty good movie, except extremely long(162 minutes.) It has an implied sex scene, as in you know they have sex, but it does not show it at all. At least, they have sex in the way Na'vi have sex, however they do that. Language wise I don't recall hearing anything. All in all it is a pretty decent family movie, all-bit a very long one, so your 10 year old sister might get bored.

EDIT: Not really much gore either. Plenty of people dying, but no blood splatter, and the bullet holes are just kinda like red holes, no blood dripping out or anything.

Great movie, i think family appropriate.

they say shit a bunch, and *****, but no f words at all.

theres kissing and references to mating but nothing more

The battle sequences are intense and epic but never graphic, as bows and arrows are the main death dealers. My ten-year-old sister could handle it fine.

If they've ever seen a PG13 action film, it's nastier than this is.

I disliked it. It's pretty and all (Much like my own avatar), but the story is just... meh.

Stop telling me I'm an asshole, Avatar, I get it! Humans suck!

Actually, let me re-tell the ending for you in my own experience:

Me: "Oh, great, they are about to rally the troops!"
Avatar: "Hey, you!" *points at me*
Me: "Who? Me?"
Avatar: "Yes you! Guess what? "
Me: "What?"
Avatar: "You suck!"

That's basically the rallying speech. Don't believe me? Watch the movie.

No worries about sex, but there are a few cuss words and some military people and Na'vi getting exploding/getting shot/stabbed/etc but I don't think there's enough gore that it should be an issue, and it's not really played up.

For the record, I thought it was entertaining enough to be worth the cost of admission. The story is famaliar but the graphics and all were fun to watch. This coming from someone who actually saw it and not someone who 'probably' knows what it's like.

Avatar.

On-topic, no. Your sister will hate it if she's anything like a typical 10 year-old girl, and your mom won't like it either.

Take them to see The Frog Princess or something.

Well, there's a brief sex scene and some mild swearing, but especially towards the end there's tons of violence (no gore though, just machine guns, missiles galore and bow-and-arrow death).

It's gotten alot of criticism, but I for one loved it. It also shouldn't be anything a 10 year old girl can't handle, unless she dislikes violence, but it isn't graphic or gory in any way.

Standard PG-13 violence, like Spiderman and such, nothing too gory. There's a brief alien sex scene but nothing graphic. Overall a very impressive (especially in 3D) movie with a decent solid storyline. Family appropriate.

Nothing that would be scarring to a 10 year old. I can recall Jake (the main character) saying "Yea, thats right, *****!" to a giant lizard...thing, but its all language I'm sure shes heard much worse of. I would suggest it for your family, sure. Very good movie.

There's some offscreen sex and some mild swearing (basically, the sort of thing you'd hear in an episode of Family Guy). There is a lot of violence, but if you'd say that "The Lord of the Rings" is acceptable, Avatar will be, too.
