My PS3 Slim just broke down. I think. I'm not quite sure, but I think it has the dreaded Yellow Light of Death. It starts up, the light turns yellow for a second, and then it shuts off with the red standby light flashes. I've had it for almost 8 months now, so I'm well over the warranty. What should I do?

Edit: Thanks for the help, guys. And, about the warranty thing, I was more than a little pissed. I tend to make factual errors when I'm angry.

There really isn't much you can do. You can check to see if the warrenty is still good (I'm not sure of the warranty deals with PS3s), but if it isn't, then you may have to kiss your PS3 goodbye or get a new one.

Sorry.

I would first check to make sure you didn't spring for an extended warranty.

Then, I'm sorry to say, it does sound like your PS3 bit it. You could try calling playstation tech support, but i doubt it'll help.

If you're sure the warranty has expired, you could run the risk of damaging your console even more by trying to get some instructions off of the internet and fixing it yourself. I would, however call that a last resort. I'd say you're screwed if there's no way to fix it or even recover the data.

Usually all electronical Devices have a Warranty of at the very least 1 Year, the usual Standard is 2 Years even in which they have to Fix it if it breaks, provided you didnt sign any Contract anywhere that states otherwise. So basicly, if you dont have it for even a Year yet, tell Sony to fix it or refund the Money.

Note that if you try to fix it yourself, or tamper with it, you automatically lose ANY Warranty you may have had on it.
