Torchlight 1

Legendary item

Awesome stats, perfect for class, massive upgrade compared to current item in slot

Go to enchanter to enchant

1% chance of disenchantment (removal of all effects)

Go figure.
I know this is a cheat but if you leave Steam cloud sync on you can get around this. So you enchant, your item gets wiped, disconnect your internet. Then you hold down ctrl+shift+esc, find the torchlight process, right click on it and then click "end process", alternately click on it and then press alt+e.
That will close Torchlight and it won't be able to sync. Then reconnect your internet, and launch Torchlight. Then it will prompt you that there is a mismatch between your cloud sync and local files. Choose to use the cloud sync files.
One piece of advice, quit the game normally right before you enchant then launch it again, as that way if you get a wipe and have to do this you don't lose any progress.

I guess I'll give a moment. For a period of several years I pretty much stopped playing games. This was about 2002 through 2006. When I went back to gaming I started going through games I had missed. One of those games was called Morrowind. As I walked through it dawned on me that anything I saw in the distance I could reach if I kept walking towards it. It was really amazing to me at the time, as I had never played a game like this before.

Several incidents in Borderlands 2, most notably the first time I tried taking on Terramorphous, and the first time I successfully soloed him. The former was "oh, come on" when a single tentacle attack sent me flying off the cliff. The latter was rather embarrassingly only last week, when he downed me with practically no health remaining. I did manage to recover from that one by spamming my Unkempt Harold even harder, and getting a Second Wind off a raid boss is pretty neat.

I second FTL's Rebel Flagship. Just when the second for was finished, it landed a shot and destroyed what was left of the ship. So close to unlocking the Federation Cruiser too.

Also in Bioshock Infinite when I

Saw Rapture. I thought They really did that?"
That. I thought that was so unexpected and completely awesome. It makes me wonder what, if there is another Bioshock game, what they do the next time given that

they've gone and confirmed that "there's always a lighthouse and always a city" (I may be paraphrasing here), we will expect both those elements to feature in the next game. If they want to keep tying it all together like that, they would need to come up with something different, as we won't be bowled over in the same way with visiting the city from the previous game the second time around.

I had one of those moments in Borderlands 2...but in a slightly different way.

Those of you who have played the "Splinter Group" sidequest knows who/what is being parodyed when you get there and face them. (And if you don't from the fact their leader is Flinter and their names start with L, M, D, and R...I am VERY disappointed in you.) But the moment in this case was a part of the parody I didn't realize until later...and that's when I had my YGBKM moment.

"Hey...wait a minute! You're not June! GET HIM!"

I realized later: "June? As in another month besides APRIL?!?"

I groaned, headdesked, and got something to heal the pain of the pun.

See I hit end turn and the next one starts normally. I do this a dozen more times and the game hasn't ended. I click a bunch of menus and do a lot of searching and I discover that somehow, by some random stroke of very bad luck/oversight that the Tech Victory was somehow disabled.
Yep. All that time (a couple days actually) for nothing. All of that effort for nothing.
I went "You're fucking me..." and kinda gave up on gaming for a few days afterwards.
Hah!

Oh wow. That would suck.

I'm currently about 465 turns into my first real meaty game right now, I've built up a bunch of planets on my side of the galaxy (one step down from the largest size it can get) and I'm staying pretty isolationist from the other major races (I've got the Drengin expanding right along the south border of my territory though) and I'm currently building up a massive fleet while I've got two Ascension starbases working their asses off, giving me something like 245 more turns left until I get an Ascension victory. XD

465 turns and I still haven't engaged in a fleet-to-fleet combat encounter yet, though... talk about some slow pacing!
Doesn't surprise me. The AI doesn;t seem very adept at making large and spread out fleets.
A favorite tactic of mine is to send colony ships into enemy territory to steal the better planets from them before they can do anything about it :p
Watch out for the Arcean Empire is my advice. Maybe its just my game but they tend to get super boosted by certain special events more than the other races and sometimes theyre kinda dicks that can attack before you can.

I'm pretty sure that whole game was meant as the setup to a you-gotta-be-kidding moment. I keep hearing that people have beaten the flagship, but I've never seen it done.

Bioshock Infinite is just a few steps away from being flawless. Personally, and this is a minor gripe, really, I don't like the long stretches between checkpoints.
So, you killed a boss-type, and you're ready to turn in for the night. Oops, didn't notice the lack of the "saving" symbol, eh? Well, now you have to go through this boss again, which includes running TO the boss arena, watching the cutscene before it, as well as the cutscene after it that you saw before. God. Dammit.

A few days ago while riding the subway, I decided to play my Pokemons (Black 2 to be specific), and figured "what the hey" and to try to beat the Johto Leaders Tournament. I'm doing fine and then I'm up against Clare. She knocks out my Amphoros, but my Milotic is sweeping her team. She's on her last Pokemon (Dragonite), and just barely survives a hit from Milotic, but it's enough for him to take her out. No biggie, I still got one more Pokemon, and he'd got a sliver of health left. So I send out Arcanine and the ***** is able to one hit KO me before I can do a thing, thus causing me to lose the tournament and earning nothing.

That's another thing that bugs me: for all the tournaments, you get next to no reward for beating them, and you get just about nothing or less (depending on which one you're doing) no matter how far in you got. So, because of this, I usually avoid them.

Phantasy Star Online Episode 2 Olga Flow fight.

Fighting him down the lift was already hard and I cheer when I finally defeated him but I knew something was wrong when no credit was played and instead I was on the ground and his corpse or so I thought.
Next thing I know when I step closer to his body, he stood up casting aside his four legs for two and he got back up again and also summon some eel like creature. Needless to say til this day I can never defeated him on hard more and above.

XCOM Enemy Unknown is the king of these moments. Soldiers missing 90% hit chance shots, aliens hitting 10% hit chance shots, unlucky criticals, wandering into an ambush on the last turn, and realising that you won't be able to reduce a nations panic level before the end of the month.

Fire emblem awakening. There's a bonus level where you fight alternate versions of whatever team you select for that fight. They have the same skills, level, class, and stats as your guys. This became a huge problem considering that my guys were so dangerously overpowered that their doppelgangers were oneshotting my guys. It didn't help that three of them had lethality.

So I thought I'd be clever and limit my roster. I'd pick four of my absolute best people, pair them for the stat bonuses, and hope that would be enough to overpower my four doppelgangers. Cue me starting up the battle and noticing that the enemy team still has way more guys than I do. Puzzled I scan over them and find out that in order to get a full team the AI just duplicated my four guys four times over to get the full team of twelve. So four chroms, four lissas, etc.

So not only was I still outmatched but I'd outnumbered myself too. Cue facepalming and going "Oh you have to be kidding me." Couldn't hit reset fast enough.
Tactics Ogre PSP's last boss does that trick too. Not so bad the first time, as long as no one on your team is a god. Problem is the post game, where this fight happens again... this time there is a character you need to save or it is game over, and he is NOT on your level. He's also closer to the enemy. WTF.

OT: Dynasty Warriors 7: Empires. Officers returned to the battlefield... at once. With reinforcements. So I was leading a conga line of 9 enemy officers, 5 of them unique, led by a VERY angry Xiahou Dun, while at 10% health. Lots of screaming involved.
DWE was great for that level of sheer trollness. "Oh so you think you're a badass for killing 3 of the enemy generals on your way here?"
BOOM do it again then! WITH LU BU too.
and we'll position all our archers nearby in case you try to run with low health...

Yeah DW:E had a lot of those moments

I had this one Sniper in the latest XCOM that kept missing 80-ish% shots. What the hell dude? A certain amount of turns later and I get one that miraculously hits 25% shots. The same thing happened when I played Blood Bowl. Brilliant tactics foiled by a goddamn dice roll.

Actually, the same goes for most games that use percentages or dice. For a real life gaming moment, here's some of my Rogue's most frustrating moments:

- Make a Dexterity (highest bloody stat for a Rogue) roll to crawl through this hole unharmed! *proceeds to fuck up multiple times so loses half of his health by crawling through a hole*

- He's fighting a rat. A friggin' rat. Not only does he manage to get hit, he also manages to catch the plot-central plague it was carrying. Twice. Right after he got better the first time, like in the same goddamn session. And the stat damage, oh gods the stat damage.

- Going through entire battles with a ton of orcs with not even hitting once. I got a +7 on attacks goddammit!

I swear to the Nine, dice hate me.

First episode of Telltale's The Walking Dead. During the choice between Shawn(I think that's his name.) and Duck. It is always super hard. I liked Shawn's character and thought he was pretty cool but Duck.... He's Duck, you know?

pretty much any time I encounter a malboro in a final fantasy game.

"Oh, what a nice new area! Wonder what kind of monsters are here?"

*battle *malboro appears

"Shit. I really hope I can run before he-"

*malboro spews bad breath

"spews... bad breath..."

*watches in silence as my now berserked, blind, silenced, and poisoned party tries in vain to kill the enemy while their life is whittled away little by little by poison.

Terraria last Saturday

spent the afternoon preparing myself for the wall of flesh boss, spent forever getting molten armour and as many projectiles and potions. got killed by him in 5 minutes and worst of all it took all my items and money as well.

and i'm on softcore mode, the item thing shouldn't of happened so i'm assuming either it glitched on me or the Wall just takes items.

ragequitted and rage deleted the character as well.

The first time I fought the Rebel Flagship in FTL. Imagine fighting an incredibly difficult boss who, after you've managed to bring his health bar down, teleports away. Then you get the sinking realization that you have to defeat him multiple times, with a ship that was heavily damaged in the first fight.

Demons's Souls (recently picked it up. Love it and I'm thinking of buying Dark Souls too), the tutorial Boss, Vanguard.

One Moment you breeze through the tutorial, step through a fog door and...

"Aw, you gotta be kidding me"

Swearwords better not described left my mouth accompanied by a storm of (negative) emotions, until I realized that you were supposed to die there. (I know you can beat him and I'll try on my second playthrough)

The Demon's Souls Wiki describes it pretty good:

Every person who plays Demon's Souls is familiar with it's seemingly insurmountable odds. Most of us get our first taste of this when we step through the massive fog door in "The Journey to the Nexus". One minute your killing your first Blue Eye Knight and feeling like a champ, the next your lying face down on the ground with your head smashed in by an ax bigger than you are.
