So yeah, whats everyone's favourite (or one of many favourites) piece of lyrical awesomeness?

Il go first.

Help me if you can
It's just that this, this is not the way I'm wired
So could you please,

Help me understand why
You've given in to all these
Reckless dark desires

You're lying to yourself again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it, put it on the faultline
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
Over this. Why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess. I don't want to watch you.

Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time
What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die

Medicated, drama queen, picture perfect, numb belligerence
Narcissistic, drama queen, craving fame and all its decadence

Lying through your teeth again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it, put it on the fautline
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
Go with this, why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess, I don't wanna watch you...

Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time
What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die

They were right about you
They were right about you

Lying to my face again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it put it on the fautline
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
Over this, why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess, come to this, come to this

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet at a time
What's your hurry, everyone will have his day to die
If you choose to pull the trigger, should your drama prove sincere,
Do it somewhere far away from here

The song itself is The Outsider by A Perfect Circle.

Next!

I could never place a favorite, but Don't Stop Believing is always fun because when you start singing it, your friends will probably be able to sing it as well.
I could type it, but I'm sure you'd rather sing along...
Walking Is Still Honest
Dear mother, this is just survival. Can't promise your children everything, but you won't lie so they can sleep tonight. Defeat tasted nothing like you said. Still 22 days left till the end of the world. My legacy was making you a man. For a justice I could not change. This is one voice not to forget. Fight every fight like you can win. An iron fisted champion; an iron willed fuck up. Can anybody tell me why god won't speak to me? Why Jesus never called on me to part the fucking seas? Why death is easier than living? You can be almost anything, when you're on your fucking knees. Not today, not my son, not my family. Not while walking is still honest and you haven't given up on me. Dear shithead, this isn't happening. The sky is really falling, the paints all made of lead. Theres asbestos in the walls. Hell's coming to rip off the doors to your privileged heaven. Do you want to love and feel it? You can look but you can't taste it. You can reach but you'll never have it. We are untouchable. Untouchable is something to be.
Circle Takes the Square - Kill the Switch

Map the words to deny, deny the symptoms, as 'oh yeah I'm doing fine', as I've found a most endearing psychosis.
Somewhere out there there's a thrill I swear. Desperate as I am I just can't strip bare and bleed the only purity I've known.
But I lay with reason. Found logic concieved in a walk with skin. I sleep with reason producing these monsters.
Under painted catcalls as in temptation. yeah there's a key to be in, but there's no shade, no shade to blame.
Waterfalls in a cool grey, and the struggle is colored grey this day. The caw of crows fills up the picture plane.
Our picture plane is veiled in central neutral grey. Absinthe to slight the pain. This world's this worst case color scheme.
Streaks of oil stain, stained the road he crawled on homeward.
Oh yeah, oh yeah he threw the switch, with some unwieldy gauge, absence of light remains.
I lay with reason so logic can reap in a walk with sin. El sueno razon produce monsinios.
When does this dream end? Now I've missed another whole season,
I've missed the fall, clearly its fallen on this land as fields once green are ochre now.
This is no dream. Trees have turned to skeleton, roots teased and knotted just below the surface skin of ground.
Stitched between the earth and the sky struggling to hold it down.
Sometimes to realize you have to lose track, lose track of sight blurring my vision makes it clear that tiny moving parts make up the whole.
The image is clear, a tower is built of my own pride, I cry in the shade that if offers, the only shelter I have.
When does this dream end? This is no dream. This is the waking living breathing caricature of a memory.
Shamelessly I cave in to temptation of creation. But still my only thrill is empty sidewalks, silent streets.
The caw of crows fills up the picture plane. This is your picture plain in central neutral grey.
This world's this worst case color scheme. Streaks of oil stain, stained the road he crawled on homeward.
Oh yeah, oh yeah he killed the switch with some unwieldy gauge, absence of light remains.
Life is lowly anonymity, in death a noble pose, a Marat David.
Tell me who wouldn't give their lives for such a soap box to die behind. Life is lowly, lowly anonymity.
In the space of a smile I found sleep. As in sorrow, so shall ye reap, as in reason so shall ye sleep.
Reap the promised end to the struggle. Reap every point on our linear path.
Reap the smiles in time we borrow, every harvest relies on the last.
Reap the promising song of the sparrow, that they learned from the birth of sea.
Silenced by the threnody of the crows. Reap the fallen fruit of the dogwood tree.
But I witnessed in all this silence one souls definition of beauty. and a backlit smile so temporary.
A facade so rich with evil history. Cast in direct opposition set to overwhelm this moment to shine and sleep-
came out on top of what was borrowed, and found all that beauty to be still.
Every breath as in sorrow, reap the promised end to this path, by every image that we borrow, every harvest depends on the past.
Subdivide in factions our linear parabola, we subdivide our waking hours to sleep.
While guilty eyes turn toward a porchlight, enlightenment is losing sight.
Somewhere out there there's a thrill I swear. In this low light town when my shift begins the streets reflecting yellow, yellow, yellow in the vacancy that overwhelms the red, red, red, your vehicle the color of expansion.
"Open up." the latter just a thought to thrill me "knock knock knock" the latter just a thought to thrill me.
"Red" is a four letter word. Four letter invitation. Now my head is locked in the direction of the sun...
Life is lowly anonymity, in death a noble prose, a Marat David.
Tell me who wouldn't give their lives for such a soap box to leave behind.
Life is lowly, lowly anonymity. I know its all been done before, I want to do it again. I want do it again.
Kill the switch.
This night our journey's through the dark.
Kill the switch, a welcome comatose, tonight we journey through the darkness.
As in sorrow, so shall ye weep, as in reason, so shall ye sleep.

Youve just been served

I don't like pretentious, overwrought lyrics. Simplicity is best.

"Hello" by Evanescence is quite an emotional lyrical piece. Don't know about favourite, but is one of them. Maybe it's best when you know the story behind it, but even without it your mind fills in the blanks.

Cradle of Filth have fantastic lyrics. No one combines rhythm, poetic techniques and dark imagery like Dani Filth. Even if you don't like CoF, it's worth checking out the lyrics to songs like "Her Ghost In The Fog" and "Tragic Kingdom" simply for the masterful lyrics

Chris Whitley's "Vertical Desert" from the Rocket House album. The studio version isn't on YouTube. The live version is, if you want to check it out, but it's really not as good.

Lyrics:
I lean back on the sundial
Where angels fall;
Too late to tell the time -
Yours or mine
Now the landscape sestures questions -
How does your body climb
The latitudes beyond me?
Weigh the evenings
Silence, science, secrets;
The wreckage and the prize -
Behind your eyes two could have tasted
Visions raised on vacancy and lies
And a vertical desert;
Where you stand now,
Where i will be measured
Until we finally field
The stations, nations, civilizations
Underground

Cause now i know the lay of land -
Living with the law will come apart
If i care enough i will break your heart
Under the weight of pleasure until
Where we stand aloft
At a vertical desert

I come back here sometimes
Angels fall fireflies ascend out
Beyond the aching skyline
Reckless distances erupt in intoxication
Between the hard
And soft of our evaporations.

Where we stand aloft
At the vertical desert
In the curved air of collapse
And creation
The ballast of chaos and
Gravity's liberations

If I Am, by Nine Days.
It's by no means my favourite song, but I really like the lyrics to it.

Won't post all the lyrics, but I'll post the first chorus, at least:
If I am,
Another waste of everything you dreamed of,
I will let you down!

If I am,
Only here to watch you as you suffer,
I will let you down!
I like it, because at first it sounds like he's letting her down in a bad way... But read closer. He's saying that he won't be "another waste of everything you dream of", and that he won't only "watch you as you suffer".
I dunno. I like them, at least.

Some of the most emotionally draining, tortured and yet brutally simplistic lyrics I've ever heard. The singers delivery makes them even more rending, sends shivers down my spine every time. Loooong song (hence the the 2 parts) but definitely one for all you miserablists out there.

"I know that, I can help you, I just don't f**king want to" from The Tempest by Pendulum. The delivery is brilliant and I will gladly listen to the whole song to hear that line. For a whole song with awesome lyrics I'm going to have to side with Hero Of War by Rise Against
"He said son have you seen the world? Well what would you say if I said that you could? Just caryy this gun you'll even get paid! I said that sounds pretty good. Black leather boots spitshine so bright they cut off my hair but it looks allright. We marched and we sang we all became freinds as we learnt how to fight

A hero of war yeah thats what I'll be
and when I come home they'll be damn proud of me
I'll carry this flag to the grave if I must
because its a flag that I love and a flag that I trust

I kicked in the door I yelled my commands the children they cried but I got my man we took him away a bag over his face from his family, his freinds. They took off his clothes they pissed in his hands I told them to stop but then I joined in. We beat him with guns and batons not just once but again and again.

A hero of war yeah thats what I'll be
and when I come home they'll be damn proud of me
I'll carry this flag to the grave if I must
because its a flag that I love and a flag that I trust

She walked through bullets and haze I asked her to stop. I begged her to stay. But she pressed on so I lifted my gun and I fired away. And the shells jumped through the smoke and into the sand that the blood now had soaked. She collapsed with a flag in her hand a flag white as snow.

A hero of war is that what they see? Just medals and scars so damn proud of me?
And I brought home that flag now it gathers dust but its the flag that I love the only flag I trust. He said son have seen the world? well what would you say if I said that you could?"

Sorry for the length but you need the context to make the chorus so brilliant.

I dunno maybe...
This is an evil generation
I see with my eyes
I seen'em walking around in their suits
And honey I seen the ties

Evil girls biting good girls
Turning good girls into evil girls
Evil boys eating evil hamburgers
Evil boys eating evil fries

This is an evil generation
Rock and Roll Evacuation
As far as the eye can see
Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey
Tune Into this radio station
Rock and Roll Evacuation
In a fit of emergency

We are just hungry little creatures
Feeding upon lies
I seen'em lining us up on the wall
And trading us for pies

Seen a man on the television telling me to listen to the radio
Hear the man on the radio, telling me no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

This is a bad, bad situation
Rock and Roll Evacuation
It's not looking too good to me
Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey
Evil Spreads across the nation
Rock and Roll Evacuation
Apocalyptic insurgency

You kill the body child, but the head is still gonna live
You can give all your money now, until there's nothing left to give
You can play your electric guitar but it ain't gonna change the world
You can get all emotional on me, cry like a little girl
Cry

We are disposable creations, they're throwing us away
Ignoring everything that we do and everything that we say
Mr. President make a little money, sending people you don't know to iraq
Mr. President I don't like you, you don't know how to rock

This is an evil generation
Rock and Roll Evacuation
As far as the eye can see
Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey
Tune Into this radio station
Rock and Roll Evacuation
In a fit of emergency...
or...
You were walking down the street
You were just across the street
So I had to cross the street
To get to your side of the street

It's torture, it's torture
I need you so bad, girl
It's torturing me

You scortcher, you scortcher,
fry an egg on your face, girl
You're scorching me

Be my, be my,
Be my dark angel
Be my, be my
Capri sun
Be my, be my
Viscious and evil one

The question, the answer
The disco, the dancer
The places you'll never go
The faces you'll never know

It hurts me, it hurts me, believe me it hurts me
It's hurting me

The questions, the queries
The rhetoric, the theories
It hurts me, yeah!

Be my, be my,
Be my dark angel
Be my, be my
Blue sunshine
Be my, be my
American concubine

I am havin' a whirl
of canadian
go-go girls
Japanese karate girls
Black girls
White girls
China girls
Australi-asian
European
Pan American girls

When bad girls start wrestling
Everyone wants to be
the next referee
including me

The record is skipping
The dance is disturbing
The Jacksons are reuniting
They're going on tour
And I can't take it anymore

Be my, be my,
Be my dark angel
Be my, be my
Blue sunshine
Be my, be my
Mrs. Dick Valentine...
I just love the first verse...

Everytime I Die - The New Black

Baby, you got me all wrong
And maybe I am not at all down and out
I'm high and I'm in
Don't you know who I am?
I'm the jaded one with pop insensitivity
When I finish struggling, we can make our way to the dance floor and stand like strangers in an elevator stuck between stories
I always find myself in the middle of your stories
With the cameras as a witness I will suffer
Everything I do is wrong
But by God I do it right
We don't dance, no
We got class
No we don't have any fun at all
It's the new style and we know it
We're not stunning, we just stunned and we're lying for a living
Don't you know who I am?
I'm the real thing with the low-key sensibilities
I don't need what I've got half as much as everyone covets it
If loving me is wrong, then god damn you do it right
It turns us on to turn you down

Keith Buckley is just the best!

and also, how do you do spoiler tags? or whatever they're called, thank you pleaseeee

There Is No Insanity, Rather A Super Sanity
More Suited For Life At The End Of The 20th Century
Where Everything Is Art,
And Everything Is Trying To Express It,
Where Everything Is Art,
And Everything Is Trying To Comunicate It...

All Intelligent Beings Sleep The Dreaming Of Dreams
And They've All Come Up To Meet Me Tonight
Although While In The Morning, All Their Wonder And Their
Glory Was Turned Ugly And Quite Simple
Like A Venue When You're Loading In Gear

Sexuality, Eroticism In Asexual Pursuasions.
Man Or Woman, Make's No Difference In The Outcome
No Fasion, No Tolerance For Stupidity Or Ignorance
..."Adidas" Or "The Arch Deluxe"...
And Time Is Now An Object

Oh My Fucking God...
Oh I'm Fucking God...
And I'll Dream All This Into Becoming Real

And Until Such Time That You Can Prove Me Otherwise
I Will Continue With My Agnostic Travels
Until I've Found A Place That Dreams With Me...
...A Place That Feeds On My Rountine

All I Want Is My Mommy...
All I Want Is My Mommy...
All I Want Is My Mommy...
All I Want Is My Mommy...

This Is The Night That It All Changes

Why yes, I do like my lyrics slightly unhinged.

There's too many, but this has some of my favourite lyrics:

<youtube=IkxQCiATaDk>

"If these walls could talk they wouldn't shut the fuck up", I love that line. Sage is just a genius, he's made so much good shit.

This has great lyrics too, and I feel the need to post it because the rapper (Eyedea) passed away yesterday. He was one of my favourite rappers too, damn shame.
