Awesomenes or Stats

Have you ever found an awesome item / Got an awesome ability / Made an awesome strategy.

But, when you begin to use it people say stuff like: "No, no, don't use that! Use this (not awesome) thing"

What do you then do?
Do you use the awesome, but hard to make work, stuff?
or
Do you use the not so awesome stuff that everybody else is using?

I ask why, if they make sense and speak me round to why it's awesome and it's something I didn't see, I'll try it out.

Otherwise stick with my judgement, because my playstyle is going to work better for me than following someone else's advice when I don't understand how it works.
